Hi everyone. My name is Shelldon, and I am a qualified guide based in the city of Durban, on the east coast of South Africa. I was incredibly fortunate to have been raised in a family that loved the bush, it meant wonderful family holidays to the various parks and reserves in South Africa, from the big game reserves like the Kruger National Park, to the smaller parks like the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve. It's this memorable childhood that sparked my interest in conservation and wildlife. This interest continued to develop throughout my schooling career, leading me to join any course I could that had anything remotely to do with conservation. I was also lucky to have enjoyed many school holidays at wildlife camps being taught the very basics about conservation, as well as tracking. I've also had a very keen interest in history, and have become extremely knowledgeable regarding the history of South Africa and in particular, the history of Durban. I've also become quite an expert in the British-Zulu battlefields of KwaZulu-Natal and regularly take visitors on tours to the area. I plan all my tours with the comfort and safety of visitors in mind. I realise that many visitors have travelled many miles to get to Durban, whether by ship or plane, and they deserve the best service and the best experience I can offer. Overview of your Durban tour

The names of Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift still resound clearly to this day. It's at these sites that turning points in history were created, not only for the Zulu nation, but for the English and French nations as well. On the 22nd of January 1879 the modern, well armed British forces encamped on the slopes of a remote hill called Isandlwana were detroyed in 90min by an idigenous people, the Zulu's armed with nothing but spears. On that very same day, hours later, 150 British soldiers at a outpost in rural Zululand despreatly fought for their lives at a crossing point known as Rorkes Drift. Explore their stories that were brought to life inthe films "Zulu" and "Zulu Dawn" on this full day battlefiels tour.

A fantastic day out discovering the battle fields, as well as the political, tactical and personal ambitions of the main protagonists, whilst in the stunning landscape in which the battles occurred, brilliantly guided by Sheldon Wells

Shelldon did a great job and deserves a 5. He knew the history inside and out of both battles, and I really enjoyed the day. The tour also cleared up a number of misunderstandings that I had had since reading about and viewing (more than once, and again last night) both Zulu and Zulu Dawn. Compliments also to the South African govt/Zulu nation for keeping up both sites and related facilities.

Shelldon was an excellent guide and very knowledgable. He is a first rate story teller building up the tension of the history of Isandlawana and Rorke's Drift during the day. He also answered our various and numerous questions about South Africa. A very pleasant, educational day and we would highly recommend Shelldon.

An absolutely stunning day, perfectly pitched, informative, engaging and Shelldon really brought the history of the battlefields alive. All this in spite of some uncharacteristic foggy and damp weather. He went out of his way to make the day work for an audience ranging from 15 to 54 and was a mine of fascinating information on all things SA as we made the long journey home. To cap it all he gave us a superb restaurant recommendation as well! A brilliant day.

Outstanding day out, even considering the torrential rain/hail storm as we were heading out. The site is excellent and Shelldon displayed excellent knowledge at all times and made the story come alive. There were a few other tours around us and their guide said nothing in comparison. Lunch was basic at Rorke's Drift but very tasty and just enough. It was a long drive there and back and must have been tiring for Shelldon but he remained engaged and entertaining the whole time. one of the best trips
