Hello, I’m Ernest, a licensed level 4 culture site tour guide with a National Senior Certificate. Based in Durban, I'm 49 years old and have more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, as well as ten years of experience guiding a wide range of travellers. I have worked with conference guests needing short, insightful tours to cruise passengers eager for cultural and safari experiences. I'm happy to design each tour to suit your needs, time and interests. Cultural experiences are at the heart of my guiding style. I love offering guests the chance to connect to the people, traditions and stories of South Africa. I also lead “building experience” tours focused on bird watching in richly diverse forests, as well as adventure outings like hikes to the remarkable Raster Caves. For those for history enthusiasts or even researchers, I offer battlefield tours tailored which delve into the region’s wartime past. Trust me to provide a smooth, informative and memorable experience. My goal is to leave every guest with a deeper appreciation of this vibrant, complex region. Let me show you a side of South Africa that’s rich in nature, history and heart!

Embark on a journey to northern Zulu lands to visit the resting sites of Zulu Kings and warriors, as well as the epicenter of historic battlefields. This tour shines a light on the fighting spirit that we have inherited from inspiring historic figures who are still revered and honored in our culture. I'll contextualize you on legendary warriors like Chief Sigananda ka-Zokufa Shezi who lead the Zulu warriors that fought the British army in 1906 at Mome Gorge, and King Cetshwayo's, who fought & defeated British troops at the Battle of Isandlwana, one of the most famous and significant in South African history. I'll also share the backstory of King Shaka, the founder of the Zulu Kingdom, who was ruled over one of the biggest settlements in 19th century Africa.
-After picking you up, we'd embark on a 2.5 hour journey north of Durban. -Our first visit will be the grave of King Cetshwayo's grave, whose cause of death is clouded in mystery and uncertainty. -We'll then drive across nearby Nkandla Forest Reserve. -We'll continue towards the former home of Sigananda ka-Zokufa Shezi who was imprisoned when he was almost 100 years old. -We'd then have lunch at a local restaurant. -Later, we'll depart to present-day Eshowe, to visit the grounds of the former Zulu royal capital of Kwabulawayo & see King Shaka's memorial. -We'll then visit Queen Nandi's grave in Umlazi, the mother of King Shaka. -Afterwards, we'll go to the hills where the battle of Etaleni took place, where the Zulu warriors lead a successful ambush and the Boer settlers were defeated. -Finally, we'll drive back to Durban for the end of the tour.
