Hello, I’m Ernest, a licensed level 4 culture site tour guide with a National Senior Certificate. Based in Durban, I'm 49 years old and have more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, as well as ten years of experience guiding a wide range of travellers. I have worked with conference guests needing short, insightful tours to cruise passengers eager for cultural and safari experiences. I'm happy to design each tour to suit your needs, time and interests. Cultural experiences are at the heart of my guiding style. I love offering guests the chance to connect to the people, traditions and stories of South Africa. I also lead “building experience” tours focused on bird watching in richly diverse forests, as well as adventure outings like hikes to the remarkable Raster Caves. For those for history enthusiasts or even researchers, I offer battlefield tours tailored which delve into the region’s wartime past. Trust me to provide a smooth, informative and memorable experience. My goal is to leave every guest with a deeper appreciation of this vibrant, complex region. Let me show you a side of South Africa that’s rich in nature, history and heart!

Partake on an authentic rural village experience in the northern area of KwaZulu-Natal, an area where most of the Zulu Kingdom warriors fought against the British army. To this day, its inhabitants continue practising immemorial customs such as stick fighting & traditional Zulu dances, and they also prepare the kind of cuisine you couldn't find in any restaurant. You'll have the unique chance to engage with the villagers, attend traditional ceremonies & even ride horses as they do to herd their cows. But besides this; I'll also take you to see caves that preserve paintings dating from hundreds to thousands of years, which give notions of this area's way of life across time. A large amount of them are still clearly visible due to the preservation efforts of the local community, not only because they value cross-generational culture but they also recognize the public interest they signify. There's a few historical buildings to see too, such as churches & old residential houses, all built by missionaries.
Day 1: -After picking you up, we'll embark on a 3 hour drive to Nkandla Village. -On arrival, we'll be visiting a traditional homestead run by a local chief. -Next we'll depart to see the Bushmen Paintings and other nearby caves. -After seeing the caves, we'll have lunch at a local restaurant. -Afterwards, we'll head to another homestead where you'll see the residents' daily living including the different chores that men & women do. -Once there, you could even enjoy some horseback riding ride towards the cow's grazing land. -Back at the homestead, you'll witness all afternoon house chores as you're gathered in the main house, where you'll hear the elders talk about their family history. -Before bedtime, you'll get to enjoy their traditional homemade cuisine. Day 2: -The next day, we'll head towards some of the historical buildings around the area. -Afterwards, we'll attend a traditional ceremony of stick fighting & dancing. -We'll then have lunch at a local restaurant & return to Durban.
