The Garden Route and Klein Karoo is separated by the Outeniqua Mountains, and because of this mountain range, the Garden Route has lush coastal forests, where as the Klein Karoo has a dry semi desert climate.

Join me in exploring these 2 vastly different areas, each with it's own beauty.

Day 1 we will take a journey to Oudtshoorn, where we will learn more about the history of the area, how the Ostrich trade started and how the modern day Ostrich Farming industry has developed. We will also venture to the Swartberge to visit the Cango Caves, where we will venture underground, and learn more about the geology of this area.

Day 2 will have us exploring the coastal forests of the Garden Route. Our Journey will first take us to the well known Tsitsikamma National Park where we could take a short hike through the forest to the suspension bridges that crosses the Storm River mouth, enjoying the rugged coastal scenery.

Join us for a 1 day tour to visit the Cango Caves, Wild Life Ranch and Ostrich Farm.
We will collect you from either your guesthouse/hotel/shore in the Garden Route (George, Mossel Bay, Wilderness, Knysna) at approximately 8. 30-9. 00am and take a scenic drive to Oudtshoorn.

Join me for a day of exploring the coastal forests of the Garden Route. Our Journey will first take us to the well known Tsitsikamma National Park where we could take a short hike through the forest to the suspension bridges that crosses the Storm River mouth, enjoying the rugged coastal scenery.

From here we will travel back in the direction we came from, make various short stops along the way, like the Bloukrans Bridge, known to be one of the highest Bungee Jumping operations in the world.

We will also stop in the small coastal towns of Plettenberg Bay, known as a popular holiday destination because of it's long stretches of beaches, and Knysna, known for the beautiful estuary surrounding the town, as well as the Knysna Heads where the estuary meets the ocean.

Take a break on shore, let us discover where South Africa's first explorers landed. . . right here in 1488, Bartolomeu Diaz landed and found a freshwater fountain where they replenished supplies for the vessel. We visit the Bartolomeu Diaz Museum Complex to take in the history of the area and having time to post a card from the 'original post tree'. From the Complex we have a short drive to the Point where we shall have a picnic with light refreshments and eats while looking over the Indian ocean.

The St. Blaize Lighthouse looks over the Point, and at the base, we climb up to the St. Blaize Cave named after another explorer Vasco da Gama in 1497. These fascinating caves have a history dating to as far back as the Middle Stone Age. Leaving the cave we alight our vehicle for a short tour of the town passing several historical buildings of interest before returning to the Mossel Bay harbor quay

History, marine aquatic encounters and Oudtshoorn, Ostrich Capital

The Karoo is reached by crossing the magnificent Outeniqua Mountain Range, our drive takes us from the lush coastal area to the dry warmth of Oudtshoorn. Today we visit some of the most magnificent caves - The Cango Caves. We enjoy a guided tour walking through the beautiful cave chambers.

After the caves, we visit Cango Ostrich farm for some entertainment with ostriches, feed them perhaps or have a 'ostrich massage! An experience not to be missed, with lots of laughs all around.

Our next three hour stop is at the beautiful setting of Buffelsdrift Game Reserve, here we shall have an excellent set menu luncheon plus time to share with the most special elephant, who leave us with wonderful memories. This is a fun packed full day and rather warm, please do bring a sun hat, sun cream and walking shoes essential.

A half day tour with a walk in the city to the museum where George was established since (1810) and named after King George 111 of England. Dutch East India Company since (1776) built an outpost for the provision of timber, the location is near to the western end of York Street. The timber was used in the building, transportation and furniture industries.

George is very safe for tourist as the people are very friendly and helpful, and a walk about gets you to meet with these cultures - giving a more in depth knowledge and perspective of the city and surrounds.
On offer is the Old Car Show, Strawberry Festival and the George Tens Rugby at the sports grounds. Drive down to Victoria Bay for a fun day of surfing and swimming in the bay.
The museum started by Paul Sayers in (1967)) is a cultural history museum that preserves it's history with special focus on the timber industry and it's work shops close by and an art collection on how as well.

The Garden Route is one of south Africa's most popular and interesting stretches of coastline and the Wilderness is as wild as the name says. With a remarkable rugged coastline and clear waters to surf and play in the waves.

N2 highway road takes us all the way to the Tsitsikamma (Clear or sparkling water) National Park.

Knysna is surrounded by the Outeniqua mountain range and engulfed by indigenous forest with a (21 square kilometer) marine reserve better known as the "lagoon". The Knysna Lagoon is best known for it's unique watersports, yachts and ferries which will take you across the "Lagoon of George Rex".
See the marvelous heads as we look down from the view point to the entrance of Knysna (straight down).
Tsitsikamma Storms River is where we get some good hiking trails and the action grips you to do it all, as the day lingers on. Return to George via Bloukrans Bridge.

Bloukrans Bungee Jumping! - The highestbungee jump in the world from a bridge built by the Scottish pass builder Thomas Geddes Baines. This first pass was closed as too much accidents happened and the new bridge takes you far east to Port Elizabeth. Enjoy the very long drop to freedom as you free-fall most of the way to the bottom.

Storms River hanging bridges - a must do activity if you are not so fit ( a pleasant walk along these suspension bridges) will just get the adrenalin pumping again. Walk is fantastic and a view from the surrounding forest trail makes the walk worthwhile.

The local forests are a must for the keen Nature & Bird Lover. Leaving Mossel Bay city behind us taking and drive along the coast then into local forests, a magnificent area of the Wilderness offering views of the Wilderness coast and forested region.

Driving through the Wilderness, to Hoekwil we reach the Woodville Forest, taking a gentle walk through the forest with your guide who shares passion of the region, fauna and flora. These forests are known for the 'giants', our Outeniqua Yellow Wood Trees which tower above the forests. A large variety of bird life play and call as we pass through their forest home. Often one can find the Knysna Turaco following the walk above in the canopy of the trees.

Time for a picnic after the walk. After our time at the forest we take a drive through Hoogekraal Forest region down to the coast, through Sedgefield and a stop off at Dolphin View Point and finally arrive in Mossel Bay.
