Hi! My name is Francisco Javier, welcome to Boriquén! I'm a local tour guide with a passion for history. Growing up in Puerto Rico I was fascinated from a very young age by the indigenous past and culture of the island. This curiosity led me to study history and eventually archaeology. During my time in the university, I worked in the service industry in hotels and fine dining. I enjoyed the interaction with the tourists so much so that I decided to combine my passion for history with the tourism industry. So, seven years ago I decided to certify myself as a tour guide and use my passion and knowledge to show visitors and locals alike what the island is all about. In the hospitality industry, I learned how to anticipate the particular needs of my clients in order to meet and exceed their expectations. That the key to good service is to treat your customers the way you want to be treated, with kindness, respect, and attention to detail. I'm also an avid traveler myself, and the one thing I have learned is that when you are on vacation the most important things is how you spend your time. I don't like to be limited, and try to make my visits to different attractions at my own pace. So, when you do a tour with me, one of the things that you can expect is that we go at your pace and leisure. I take a lot of pride in representing Puerto Rico and I do my best to show our visitors an authentic Puertorrican experience with a local and historical perspective. I want to facilitate the interaction between our visitors and the locals of the places we visit. Throughout my years, I have made friends with members in different communities, and they have shared with me the hidden treasures of their everyday existence. The way they use their resources, the names they give to the plants, trees, animals and places which conform the true character of the Puertorrican people. Join me on this adventure! We will start exploring the Las Delicias Waterfall located in Cialis and is part of the Tres Picachos Rainforest Reserve. This waterfall is easily accessible from the road, a short hike takes you right up to the main fall. Unlike waterfalls in El Yunque National Rainforest, Las Delicias is rarely visited during weekdays so you are likely to have the fall to yourself. We will continue the journey to Jayuya where we visit a petroglyph mural. We arrive to the site where our vehicle enters the forest through a jeep road and we park the car next to the river where we have lunch. Next, we will have the opportunity to hike up for 15 min to the mural where I will teach you about the archaeology of Puerto Rico! We will then head back to the river for our lunch and you can bathe in the river or just hang out and talk to our friends from the local community. I take a lot of pride in representing Puerto Rico - so join me on this tour!
We had a wonderful tour with Francisco. He was super knowledgeable and also fun to be with. He is amazingly enthusiastic to share his extensive understanding about Taino culture and history. We had been in PR a few times but it was great to get out of the city and learn stuff about the central areas. Highly recommend.
This is a great way to spend your time off the beaten path in Puerto Rico. We loved learning more about the culture and history of Puerto Rico including the life of the Tainos. Francisco Javier is a truly amazing guide - and definitely works to let you choose your own pace and your own adventure. This helped complete our experience in Puerto Rico. Francisco shares his expertise, his understanding of his country and his passion for the subject. The petroglyphs alone are worth your day! Treat yourself!
This was a wonderful tour. We chose it because it seemed a little bit out of the ordinary and we were not disappointed. Our guide, Francisco Javier, was extremely knowledgeable not only about Puerto Rican history going back to the indigenous peoples but also about the island, its people, culture, and politics. I would highly recommend this trip.
Francisco is a super guide. He is highly educated and very fun to discuss topics such as history, archeology, anthropology. He was able to answer my questions about Puerto Rican culture, tradition, manner of living. He gave us great recommendations of great coffee places, best rums. I loved the tour of the cave and seeing the petroglyphs. It was a great day.
Javier was absolutely wonderful. He is very knowledgeable, personable, his vehicle was pristine. We changed the itinerary on the fly and he was very accommodating. We had a spectacular day with Javier and highly recommend his tour. Linda B
Francisco was just a great guide. We went were no large tours go and did it in his capable hands. Trekked into rainforest and climbed up to waterfalls. Our daughters went on one of those big tours and they and 100 other people were on the trail. This was just us and Francisco. Definitely the way to see Puerto Rico. Also his knowledge of archeology was impressive when explaining the petroglyphs.
1. Pick up at the hotel 2. Visit to Las Delicias waterfall (trip to SJ is 1hr & 45min) 3. We saty at the waterfall for about 30 mins 4. Then we ride to Jayuya (the trip is 25min) 5. We arrive at the river and begin our hike through the rainforest to the petroglyph mural (hike of 15 to 20min) 6. In our visit to the mural we'll talk extensively on the archaeology of P. R. (We stay for 30 mins) 7. Then we return to the river for our lunch. 8. After lunch you'll have the chance to bathe in the river and mingle with our local hosts. 9. Our return trip is 2 hours coming back through the southern side of the island 10. You should be back at your hotel between 430 an 500pm *The above itinerary is a suggestion, and can be adjusted per your preferences*
