Hi! My name is Francisco Javier, welcome to Boriquén! I'm a local tour guide with a passion for history. Growing up in Puerto Rico I was fascinated from a very young age by the indigenous past and culture of the island. This curiosity led me to study history and eventually archaeology. During my time in the university, I worked in the service industry in hotels and fine dining. I enjoyed the interaction with the tourists so much so that I decided to combine my passion for history with the tourism industry. So, seven years ago I decided to certify myself as a tour guide and use my passion and knowledge to show visitors and locals alike what the island is all about. In the hospitality industry, I learned how to anticipate the particular needs of my clients in order to meet and exceed their expectations. That the key to good service is to treat your customers the way you want to be treated, with kindness, respect, and attention to detail. I'm also an avid traveler myself, and the one thing I have learned is that when you are on vacation the most important things is how you spend your time. I don't like to be limited, and try to make my visits to different attractions at my own pace. So, when you do a tour with me, one of the things that you can expect is that we go at your pace and leisure. I take a lot of pride in representing Puerto Rico and I do my best to show our visitors an authentic Puertorrican experience with a local and historical perspective. I want to facilitate the interaction between our visitors and the locals of the places we visit. Throughout my years, I have made friends with members in different communities, and they have shared with me the hidden treasures of their everyday existence. The way they use their resources, the names they give to the plants, trees, animals and places which conform the true character of the Puertorrican people. This is the kind of experience that I'd like to share with you! Looking forward to enjoy a nice cup of Puertorrican coffee by a natural watering hole in the rainforest with you! See you in Puerto Rico soon! - Certified Tour Guide by th PR Tourism Company - Certified Tour Operator by the PR Tourism Company - Certified by the PR Tourism Company in the Taíno Route - Bachelors Degree in History from the Interamerican University of PR - Masters Degree in Anthropology from Universidad Complutense de Madrid - Masters Degree in Archaeology From Universidad Complutense de Madrid - My vehicle can not go in to El Yunque National Rainforest. - I do not do tours inside the two forts in old San Juan

Overview of your San Juan tour

According to Taíno mythology, creation was born out of a cave called Cacibajagua. For them, caves were the sacred entrance to the underworld. The Famous Karst region on the northern side of the island is riddled with caves, sinkholes, and underground rivers! In this experience, we visit two of the most emblematic caves of the area: Cueva del Indio on the coast and Cueva Ventana in the Karst mountains, both in the town of Arecibo! The first cave is made from a sandstone outcropping on the beach, it was used as a ceremonial place by the indigenous peoples of the island and it's carved with hundreds of petroglyphs. The second cave is located in the karst mountains of the same town and its famous for its window view of the Arecibo river valley! This cave was also used by the Taínos for ceremonial purposes and has dozens of petroglyphs and pictographs that are dated to around 800 a. D. Join me on this exploration of these two caves!

We had a great experience with Javier - interesting and informative background on the indigenous people and also the history of Puerto Rico. We visited several sites with caves - they do not require spelunking experience. Interesting trip through the larger set of caves and chance to look out the “window” over the valley. Overall had a great time.

This was our second tour with Javier. One of the caves we planned to visit was closed so he suggested the archeological site of Caguana which was really interesting. The beach cave Cueva del Indio was beautiful and he provided great info about the island, the petroglyphs, and the Taino people.

This tour was excellent. Due to unavoidable circumstances we weren't able to visit the window cave but Francisco took us to a variety of other places that more than made up for this. His knowledge of the geography, history, people and culture was superb and he was able to share this knowledge with us in an easy and friendly way. I highly recommend both the tour and Francisco. Friendly, knowledgeable, professional and easy to talk with.
