Maras - Moray, It is an essential trip through the sacred Valley and transformative experience into the past and present of the land scape of the incas. It is a unique experience to visit the salt mines or salt works of Maras and the farming terraces of Moray. It is believed that in Moray the Incas created their own micro-climate to adapt the plants to that altitude. Afterwards we will continue the visit to the salt mines located near the town of Maras. These mines continue being labouring by the local community until nowadays Currently people can harvest te salt and send it to process in the refinery store. The landscape is really remarkable we can appreciate the view of mountain range of the Urubamba.
The tour begins with the pick you up from your hotel. We'll go in the way of Maras, a traditional village which is located in the Urubamba Valley. We'll continue to the archeological site of Moray at the north of Maras, which is a unique construction of several circular platforms that served as an agricultural laboratory to experiment with different products in the times of the Incas. Continuing the tour we will arrive at Maras salt mine, impressive platforms of salt formed by thousands of white ponds that seem like snow. Chinchero: a unique site to see local weavers, the temple from the 17th century, fully covered with murals, and inca terraces. All these 3 are part of the classic sacred valley tour. We depart from Cusco city, but we can also start from the airport, the train station or your hotel in the sacred valley. 16:00 hrs. Arrive to Cusco city.
