Welcome! My name is Roberto. I am an Archaeologist and an official Tour Guide of Italy I obtained bachelor degree in Cultural Heritage, master degree in Classical Archaeology and the diploma of Post-Graduate School in Archeological Heritage. I'm a member of Slow Food (an international movement that strives to preserve traditional and regional cuisine and encourages farming of plants, seeds and livestock characteristic of the local ecosystem) and so I organize specific tours to those who want to discover the authentic pleasures of wine and traditional food. I also do online pre-trip consultations to help traveller to get their best from their vacations. Availability, preparation and organization are my greatest battle horses to transmit the love that I feel for my country and its history. Join me in this archaeological tour! As your personal PhD Archaeologist I will be happy to share my knowledge with you. Herculaneum was buried by the eruption of the Vesuvius in the 79 A. D. by about 20 meters (60 feet) of pyroclastic material. For this reason here you can see very well preserved entire buildings in two floors. At the moment only about the 30% of the ancient city is excavated and the ruins show us a lot of private buildings that conserved carbonized wooden furniture of the Roman times. Nowadays Herculaneum is not very known like its "big sister" Pompeii and for this reason the visit here is less crowded and more quite and intimate. Can't wait to meet you and to aswer all your questions and curiosities you have about archaeology and roman time.
We enjoyed our tour of Herculaneum with Roberto. His English is very good, and he was patient with our questions and those of us who tended to wander off course. His knowledge was exceptional, and we learned much. He was also helpful in arranging transportation and recommending us a guide for Pompeii (he was not available), who was excellent as well.
Our group of friends used Roberto for a private tour of Pompeii in 2021. Two years later we were fortunate to be able to reconnect with Roberto for a private tour of Herculaneum. His narrative of the events of 79 AD, the lives of the city dwellers before and after the eruption and the commerce, art and architecture of Herculaneum help paint the picture of life before and after this major historical event.
Roberto's knowledge added a wonderful dimension to our visit to Herculaneum. The context he was able to add and the insights he provided all enhanced the visit. Whilst I'm sure there are great guidebooks and audio guides... they aren't the same as having an experienced guide with in-depth knowledge. He highlighted some really interesting parts of the site. Roberto spoke fluent English, and explained things in a way that our 10 year-old understood. I'd certainly recommend him to friends visiting the area.
What a gem of a tour. Herculaneum turned out to be my favorite archeological site and Roberto was just the right person to guide us through.
Having experience of archaeological excavations I wanted to have a tour guide who was an Archaeologist. We took Roberto's tour of Herculaneum and were so impressed we hired him again for Pompeii. He is friendly, funny, and most importantly, knowledgable. I would thoroughly recommend him.
