Hello! My name is Paola, and I have been a licensed tour guide in the Campania region since 2017. I have a Master's degree in History of Art from the University of Naples "Federico II" with a dissertation about "The use of Greek mythology in the medieval churches". I've worked in the tourism industry for the last ten years, and this is the field I am truly passionate about. Working as a tour guide is a privilege and a mission: I am responsible for my country's image and cultural heritage. Plus, meeting people from all over the world gives me a chance to pass on the history and traditions of my region. I was born and raised in an area called Paesi Vesuviani (which means 'towns around Mount Vesuvius'); I can't remember the first time I visited Pompei and Herculaneum because it feels to me that I always spent time there, knowing the streets by hearth and walking in this towns as I belong. Before settling in Italy, I spent some time in France and Greece for my studies, which are countries where I am always happy to come back for a visit. I can say that I love history and the history of art: I spend most of my off-season reading and studying new subjects and expanding my knowledge. I am incredibly passionate about Greek, Roman and Medieval history, and lately, I am developing an interest in Mediterranean history and the period of the Crusade and the Ottoman Empire. I can never get bored at home with a good book! My other passion is travel. I like to visit new places, and I have many friends that live abroad or in other parts of Italy; I am always keen on seeing them when my schedule allows me. What works best for me is to travel every two or three months, which gives me a sense of freedom and peace. How I got passionate about travelling? Since I was a little girl, I travelled with my parents anytime there was a chance with our camper van: we were often on the road exploring Italy and other European places. I am looking forward to meeting you and giving you the chance to explore like a local this unique region I feel blessed to represent! During my tours, I prefer not to overwhelm you with millions of dates and information, but instead, I like to create a new interest in you and inspire the same love I feel for these places. The quote that inspires my work is "La mente non è un vaso da riempire ma un fuoco da accendere" (The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be lit) from Plutarco. - Post-graduated degree master in Cultural Tourism Management at the University "Suor Orsola Benincasa" of Naples in 2021. - Licensed Tour Leader from 2021. - Licensed tour guide in Campania region from 2017. - Graduated in Art History with a dissertation about "The use of greek mythology in medieval mosaic floors" at the University of Naples "Federico II" in 2014. - I am a licensed guide and I can guide tours inside museum, archeological area etc. - I am not a driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver.

This tour is designed for traveller coming for the first time to Pompei that need a good introduction to the historical site and want to discover the highlight of the archeological area; but is also designed for people that has been already once in Pompei and they are coming back for a deepen visit and understanding. You can let me know at the moment of the reservation if this is the first visit for you or not. I've study for a long time Pompei due to my study in history of art but also because of my private interest, I am very flexible about the style of the tour and the amount of informations that you want to receive.
• The tour can start from the gate Porta Marina superiore, from this gate we have the chance to enter in the hearth of the town, depending on crowds or new opening we can decide the best area to explore. We'll have a moment together to learn about the story of the town, the eruption of Vesuvius and about the story of the excavations. There will be a stop in the area of the forum, the main square with the temple and the market area. Around this area there are so many streets we can walk together to discover how everyday life was back then. We'll stop to see one of the restaurants of the time, fountains, an example of the bath house with their beautiful decorations. I will show you one of the best house open in the period of your visit (there are many houses that are open or close depending on the season) this is the most surprising part of the tour, because is what makes Pompei unique. Also very important is to see one of the plaster cast of the inhabitant that died at the moment of the eruption.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
