Tel Aviv is the thriving start-up, finance, and cultural capital of Israel and the Middle East. In this walking tour I will introduce you to some of the historical characters which catapulted the city into this role.

We will meander through the neighborhood of Neve Tzedek and I will share stories of the influential, interesting characters who built and shaped this neighborhood. We will even see a neighborhood which was founded by Christians from Maine whose members were saved by Mark Twain! I will also take you to my favorite ice cream stand, situated amongst the quaint streets.

We will continue to Tel Aviv and find about the ideas and people which shaped this city. Did you know Tel Aviv is famous for its coffee? We will have a chance to sample it from one of the many coffee houses.

Finally, no tour would be complete without a visit to the Carmel Market to sample some authentic Israeli cuisine. There, in the market in a re-purposed synagogue, is some of the best humus around!

Disembark in Israel's largest port of Ashdod for an exhilarating tour! From Ashdod we will travel in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle to Jerusalem where we will start with my favourite panoramic lookout before descending into the many alleys of the ancient city! From the Mount of Olives Church we head to the Gardens of Gethsemane, Jewish Quarter and Western Wall, Via Dolorosa, Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Temple Mount/Dome of the Rock (if open). We'll have time to explore the Arab souk (market), tasting from the local fare and strolling along off-the-beaten-path alleys that only a local would know. Get a taste of the rich cultural and religious diversity of this complex and compelling city as I share stories of peace seekers and conquerors, pilgrims and visionaries who have made an impact on this city. Before leaving Jerusalem, we will view the Knesset (Israel's Parliament building) and get a feel of the modern city.

We drive eastwards, Jerusalem Mountains. We bypass Jerusalem from the North, start descending toward the Judean Desert. We pass by The Sea Level Point and go further east, going down to the Jordan Rift Valley.
We visit Ein Gedi Nature reserve, the lowest oasis in the world, and marvel at the views, flora, and fauna.
We continue to the south, getting to Masada National Park. A lofty plateau overlooking the Dead Sea, UNESCO has declared Masada National Park a World Heritage Site. We reach atop the plateau by a short cable car ride. We will visit Herod's palace, see nice mosaic floors, Fresco wall paintings and Stucco designs. We talk about the heroic battle that took place here some 1950 years ago between the Romans and the zealots, and about the symbolic value of Masada nowadays.
We finish our visit to the desert region in floating in the Dead Sea, and drive back to the starting point.
