Let's travel to the Judean Desert and enter Masada National Park, where the ruins of Rosh Harer, against the extraordinary background of the Judean Desert, are only a stage for the reconstruction of an ancient heroic story, now anchored in national mythology. We heard about King Herod's huge construction project, the combination of a fortified palace in the middle of the desert, and a king who did not want to give up the luxury of the Roman world, creating an impressive and magnificent complex that only Herod could build. We will go up to the palace and through it we will hear the heroic story of the last battle. The last moments of the last Jewish opponents of Roman rule and their struggle against the mighty Roman army, which began in 66 AD, and ended here, in Masada, in January 73 AD. After visiting the Masada site, we will continue with a short drive south, bathe and watch the Dead Sea, a sea that is drying up, the lowest place in the world!
We will leave Tel Aviv and drive towards the Jerusalem mountains, on the way we will talk about the importance of the road in historical times and biblical stories that happened right between these hills. We will cross the Judean Mountains, bypass Jerusalem, and begin our descent towards the desert. With Jericho on our left, we will turn south and drive along the Dead Sea, on the way we will talk about the importance of this geographical area for the 3 monotheistic religions and about its fascinating history until we reach Masada. After Masada we will continue to visit the saltiest and most interesting waters of the Dead Sea, the lowest place in the world, Let's see who among us can float (: And that's it, after bathing, when we are healthier and younger we will start the journey back to Tel Aviv. The itinerary is flexible, for any changes please let me know.
