I have a passion for history and guiding my guests through the unique cities of Esslingen and Stuttgart. I grew up in Michigan and worked in the aerospace and automotive industries as an engineer. Always curious about my own German heritage, I studied the German language and traveled extensively. Now, I am able to pursue my love of European history, architecture, and travel as at our guide in Germany, with over 8 years of experience. I do my best to provide a enthusiastic and informative historical walking tours of Esslingen and Stuttgart and enjoy telling many stories about these cities. Most of my clients are the result of referrals from previous guests, who have thoroughly enjoyed sightseeing and learning about medieval Esslingen and historical Stuttgart. My area of special interest and expertise is the European medieval period as well as World War I and II. My native language is English, with German as my second language. I am very proud of my consistent "5-star" ratings on different travel websites. On my tours, you will experience these sights from an "insiders" point-of- view and from a local, who lives here and can show you things that you would not find on your own. My guests describe my tours as "enthusiastic, informative and humorous" (well, this opinion may vary depending on one's sense of humor!) I look forward to hosting you on one of my many different tours either in Esslingen and in Stuttgart.

The extended, historical walking tour is provided by an experienced and native-English-speaking guide Tom, an Esslingen local. "Esslingen am Neckar" is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Germany, with over 200 preserved buildings from this period. Visitors are in awe of its rich history and beauty, as it is nestled in a valley, surrounded by canals and vineyards. The tour includes: a brief history of Esslingen and the Esslingen Christmas markets (incl. Medieval market) showing you the highlights and the different areas, explanation of some of the German Christmas traditions and a walking tour including stops at the "Hafenmarket" (location of some of Germany's oldest buildings), Inner Bridge (2nd oldest bridge in Germany), Little Venice, and the Stadtkirche (St. Dionys) You will be also be given some "insider's tips" on where to eat, shop and keep warm.
I will meet you at the Esslingen train station or the Esslingen Tourist Information Center at the Market Square, where the tour begins. The Esslingen Christmas market is from Nov. 24th (11:00 opening time) through Dec. 22nd 2026. After a brief introduction, we will make approximately 10 stops: - Half-timbered homes, old churches, old city wall, tower gates and a great view of the castle (Burg) - Beautiful "Little Venice", romantic canals and the charming "inner bridge", which connected Esslingen to the outside world. - The important Church of St. Dionysius - Insider and hidden sites, which are not easily found on your own - The beautiful park on the Maille island with the view of one of Germany's oldest stone bridges and canal works - Tour of the Esslingen Medieval Christmas market, which attracts visitors from around the world. We usually have time to stop for a warm beverage. - Return to your desired location within Esslingen. Special tours may be arranged upon request

This is a walking historical tour. I can meet you at the train station, Tourist Information building or your local hotel. There are approximately 10 stair steps on this tour with some streets being uneven cobblestone. I can accommodate those needing a bit more time to walk from stop to stop (E.g. seniors or people with strollers or wheelchair)
