I have a passion for history and guiding my guests through the unique cities of Esslingen and Stuttgart. I grew up in Michigan and worked in the aerospace and automotive industries as an engineer. Always curious about my own German heritage, I studied the German language and traveled extensively. Now, I am able to pursue my love of European history, architecture, and travel as at our guide in Germany, with over 8 years of experience. I do my best to provide a enthusiastic and informative historical walking tours of Esslingen and Stuttgart and enjoy telling many stories about these cities. Most of my clients are the result of referrals from previous guests, who have thoroughly enjoyed sightseeing and learning about medieval Esslingen and historical Stuttgart. My area of special interest and expertise is the European medieval period as well as World War I and II. My native language is English, with German as my second language. I am very proud of my consistent "5-star" ratings on different travel websites. On my tours, you will experience these sights from an "insiders" point-of- view and from a local, who lives here and can show you things that you would not find on your own. My guests describe my tours as "enthusiastic, informative and humorous" (well, this opinion may vary depending on one's sense of humor!) I look forward to hosting you on one of my many different tours either in Esslingen and in Stuttgart.

The historical city tour is a walking excursion by an experienced, authorized and native-english speaking guide, who will show you the most important historical buildings and sites of this incredible medieval city. This tour will focus on the life in the middle ages with the backdrop of beautiful Esslingen, which has many wonderfully-preserved buildings from the 13th - 15th Century. What were the people like? How did they live? What role did the church and town play in their lives? What was the difference in the daily lives of a wealthy merchant compared to a peasant? These and many other questions will be addressed as we stroll through Esslingen together.
The focus of this tour is on Esslingen's medieval buildings and what life was like during this time period -- in essence it is like taking a trip back into the 11 -15th century! Some of this tour's highlights include: - Half-timbered homes (Fachwerk in German), old churches, the remains of the city wall, tower gates and the view of the castle (Burg) - A rare 13th-century residence tower and "outhouse" - very unusual! - Beautiful "Little Venice", romantic canals and the charming 760-year old "inner bridge" which connected Esslingen to the outside world. - Insider and hidden sites, which are not easily found on your own - The old city-hall building, the most beautiful half-timbered medieval building in Esslingen Several stories about medieval Esslingen told in Tom's humorous and interesting manner. What were the people like in the medieval times, how did they live, what about hygiene and the justice system? There are approximately 11 stops also allowing time for questions and pictures .
