Welcome to Berlin! It derserves your attention! It is the most interesting, dynamic and multifaceted city today. My name is Karin and I take great pleasure knowing that you have chosen Berlin for your visit and have a great desire that you come to understand this complex city so riddled with history. I am an experienced, knowledgable, certified local tour guide for Berlin and Potsdam. Even though I was born here, I did not grow up here. I came back to Berlin from Spain (with long interludes in Canada and California) in 1994. What I found was incredibly uniuqe: a city toppeling over with so much history and history in the making. From the first moment on I was spellbound. I became obsessed with its history and development. I talked to people both from the East and West to find out their stories and opinions. Today, I have the feeling Berlin is catching up with itself to finally reach its potential that was interupted with the rise of the 3rd. Reich. I want to share with you the love and compassion I have developed for Berlin and take you on that journey. Even though I have set private tours, they can be planed according to your interests and time. I give walking tours, tours using public transport, taxi, hired car or minivan. You can choose to have a general overview, or go in depth into a particular subject or neighbourhood. It is well worth your time. Explore different themes such as Jewish life then and now, the Cold War along with private life in Eastern Germany, Imperial Berlin, WWII as well as getting off the beaten track to show you the fascinating and varied neighbourhoods, each one with its own development and history. In all my private tours I use images and newspaper articles to illustrate the past and draw links to the present. My tours include recommendations to help you with any special interests or needs you might have. I am looking forward to meeting you! Certified Tour Guide for Berlin and Potsdam Licensed to show: Cecilienhof Palace, Charlottenburg Palace (new wing) and Park, Bildergalerie Park Sanssouci, Potsdam Schönhausen Palace, Grunewald Jagdschloss (Hunting Palace) Germany does not allow tour guides to drive hired cars or minivans. This service must be given by two persons. A hired car always has a driver.

Overview of your Rostock tour

Discover the Beautiful Baltic Coast! Welcome to a region shaped by centuries of maritime power and trade. This is the birthplace of the Hanseatic League—a powerful alliance of merchant guilds dating back to 1240. At its height, around 200 cities traded spices, salt, timber, amber, and more, gaining great wealth and lasting influence. The legacy of this commerce still shapes the region. In Germany, we speak of the "Hanseatic character"—a blend of openness, honesty, reserve, and trustworthiness formed by centuries of steady trade. You’ll feel that spirit most in Lübeck, the pearl of the Hanseatic cities, where history and modern life blend beautifully. The calm confidence and charm of this place are everywhere. I’m truly excited to show you this city—to walk its streets, share its stories, and reveal how the past still lives in the present. Look forward to a meaningful and memorable day!

Karin and driver Jurgen gave a great tour! Very knowledgeable about the history of Wismar, Lubeck and the Schwerin Castle as well as general background history of the Baltics, especially the Hanseatic League. Stopped for lunch at a nice local restaurant. Well organized and efficient tour.

Highly HIGHLY recommend this particular tour and Karin H for ANY tour she offers. We were not interested in a nearly 3 hour drive to Berlin and this tour was perfect. Save Berlin for a time when you are spending more than a day there. Wismar, Schwerin, Lubeck are wonderful places full of beauty and history and Karin knows all the history and story after story and site after site for us to see. It was still a long day but nothing like driving for 3 hrs each direction. It was our best day of the ports.

Karin (along with her husband Jürgen who drove) put together an amazing tour for our family of some of the great cities of the Hanseatic League. Although we spent 12 hours with Karin on this tour she managed to keep even my kids engaged the entire time. Everyone agreed this was the best tour of our entire vacation in Europe. Karin is passionate, knowledgeable, and attuned to what her guests want to see and hear about. It was a simply delightful day from the sites, to the food, to her music playlist!

I organized a group of 20 from California. We were in Warnemunde for one day on our cruise. She gave our group a full day tour of Wismar, Ludbeck and the Schwerin castle. She was very knowedgeable, very easy to understand and everyone in our group enjoyed her as our tour guide. I highly recommend Karin as your tour guide in Warnemunde.

The most difficult thing about an 8 hour tour of Berlin coming off a cruise ship is to get in the highlights, keep the group together & make sure we make it back to the ship (a 2 hour drive) on time. Did we get a glimpse of the highlights of this great city? Very much so. She was able to guide us through the important viewpoints and, more importantly, tell us the history of the places we touched. She is very, very good in what she does and our group would definitely recommend her!

Karin (and Jurgen) were spectacular ! We've had tour guides from all over the world and this couple was truly the BEST with whom we've ever had the pleasure to meet. They were punctual, knowledgeable, professional .. and great FUN !! Karin carefully listened to and delivered on every request. Time allowed us to venture "off the beaten path" and they showed us picturesque landscapes & charming villages, even treating us to local pastries and coffee in the morning. We were treated like "family." 5 STARS !

Your Rostock tour itinerary

Step Back in Time on a Hanseatic Adventure This is an exciting tour which I love—because it’s an experience that transports you back through centuries of history, culture, and beauty. We’ll begin by picking you up at your ship, based on the details you provide. Our day starts with a scenic drive through the flat, open landscapes of Northern Germany, heading first to Wismar, a charming Hanseatic gem. Then on to Lübeck, the first Hanseatic city (1240), often called the "Pearl of the League." We’ll stop here for lunch or a light snack. In the afternoon, enjoy the countryside as we continue to Schwerin, to see a stunning fairy-tale castle often called the Neuschwanstein of the North. After a full day of discovery, we’ll return you safely and on time to your ship. Prefer to stay closer to the coast? We can switch Schwerin for Rostock—another beautiful and very interesting city! Just let me know! I’m happy to customize the tour—just get in touch!
