"On setting foot in Hamburg, one thing soon becomes apparent: The Germans have been keeping it a secret. While sending tourists to Berlin and Munich by the busload, they've kept this free-spirited and forward-thinking city to themselves". . . Hamburg almost literally wears its ships on its shoulders: Space, tolerance and freedom mark the free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. In this tour you understand the "Hamburger Way" of living by getting in touch with the city's history. From the first settlement of the "Hammaburg" and its small harbor, you will discover the Alster Lake, which radiates magic in the city center. You get to know the history of famous musicians with the first public opera house in Germany and have a closer look to the city hall as it's been standing since the late 1800s. Although "Operation Gomorrha" has left St. Nicola's Church in ruins, after this monument, you will experience history of commerce and old warehouses from the 1600s. I can customize this tour according to your requests.
- Meetup at "Domplatz" square close to St. Petri Church - Walk through city center - admire the Alster Lake - visit the city hall square and its foyer (if city hall's schedule permits) - stroll along "Alter Wall" and "Neuer Wall" shopping streets - take a look at the historic stock exchange building - discover the area, where the former buildings of stock exchange, city hall and main square were located - commemorate World War II at the memorial of St. Nikolai - observe the old warehouses from the 1600s - the tour ends at "Deichstraße" street, where many restaurants are available https://maps. app. goo. gl/muihesVwE7Kx8VeH8 We do little breaks as we go and I try to find possibilities to sit wherever I stop. This tour is wheelchair accessible and walkable with a stroller or walker. Steps can easily be avoided. Please, let me know in advance in case you prefer assistance in walking.
