Born and raised in the Netherlands, from a very young age I have been passionate about WW2 military history. I'm an avid collector of wartime memorabilia and for 40 years I have taken part in a WW2 re-enactments and living history events in the broadest form, giving presentations in schools, worked as an extra and historical advisor for film and tv productions. After having served in the Dutch Army for 5 years, and working as a graphic designer for 15, I became a bi-lingual tour guide at Leeds Castle, England, when in 2014 the opportunity arose to become a full-time D-Day tour guide in Normandy which I grabbed with both hands! I have now been a professional tour guide for over 11 years. Over many years I was involved in writing and publishing WW2-related military-historical articles, and in 2019 I presented a Youtube documentary about the 29th Infantry Division's battles around our village of Saint Clair sur l'Elle in June 1944. With my military background, my passion for and sharing of WW2 military history, involvement in historical events and an established guiding experience, I can offer you the best possible personal D-Day tour experience. On this half day tour of the Omaha sector on D-Day, we will visit the Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach and the Normandy American Cemetery. The US Army Rangers' assault on the German costal artillery position atop 100ft high cliffs is one of the most daring in WW2! This site is still littered with bomb craters, and the many German bunkers are left as they were found after the battle. We then will visit Omaha Beach, depicted in opening scenes of the film Saving Private Ryan: here is where the heaviest casualties on D-Day were suffered. You will hear about the units involved, learn about how many things can and did go wrong here, but also how initiative, determination and leadership resulted in success. The third stop on this tour will be the final resting place of 9387 American servicemen and women from the Normandy campaign, located on high ground overlooking the eastern side of Omaha Beach. Here you will have the opportunity to pay your respects.
I felt very fortunate to get booked with Mike. Impressive depth of knowledge in all directions. His comprehensive ability to describe the situation on D-Day made our tour a delight. Mike was a great tour guide. Even with sideways rain and high winds he took us through the La Pointe du Hoc site and modified our tour for weather allowing us to see what we could while also allowing my wife and daughter to get out of the rain. Was great with presenting and knowledgeable about the sites. He responded quickly when we had issues with train delays.

Mike is a Master among tour guides! From the moment he arrived to pick up our group, I knew that we were in for a comfortable, informative and really fun afternoon. We were staying a little farther away from the interest points of the D-Day tour, but Mike graciously agreed to pick us up at our location. His knowledge of the history of the Invasion of Normandy is legion, and he presented it with passion and pathos. The time flew by and we all left having learned, as well as having been entertained!!!!
