"Hello guys this is your captain Simon speaking!! I'm based in Aix en Provence, Provence's old capital. I was born in Cannes (movie festival) approximately 2 months before Cary Grant passed away. I have been working (enjoying myself) as a guide for 8 years. I can speak English, Spanish, Portuguese and a little bit French (OK not that good this one). About my "ship" it's a comfortable mercedes 8-seat van with air conditioned. . . We will see beautiful places, nice landscapes and people with moustaches! Maybe we will play pétanque and taste Roséwine (besides me since I'm your captain). We will probably see a lot of puppies and a lot of people wearing a beret. We will find delicious cantaloup and nice strawberries in a typical provencal market. We can buy a "baguette" and also taste a provencal goat cheese. We could actually have a "pique nique" !! We will hopefully see the Lavender Fields (June, July) and you will tell me how lucky I am to live in such an area. . . I would warn you about the large number of bees in the fields and explain the difference between the Lavendin and the Lavender. We will walk on the footsteps of Vangogh in Arles and St Rémy de Provence, and I will prove you that I'm his French descendant. . . Of course, I will show you the Popes' Palace in Avignon and if you want we will dance on "the bridge of Avignon" after a glass (or two) of Château Neuf du Pape Wine (if the popes have left us any). We will see soccer supporters praying in Marseille's beautiful basilica "Notre Dame de la Garde" for their team to win the game. I will prove you that French people do take showers thanks to the wonderful soap of Marseille. . . BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY WE WILL HAVE A LOT OF FUN !! You have probably read a year in Provence Peter Mayle bestseller of the late 90s. When fiction becomes reality! Cherry trees, Olive trees, Vineyard, Lavender, and Pretty villages perched here is the program today! If we are a Sunday I am sorry we will not go to Mass but rather to the market of L'Isle sur la Sorgue one of the greatest provençal market. We will probably be refreshed in the pretty village of Fontaine de Vaucluse starting point of the Sorgue river before taking the most beautiful roads of Provence while avoiding to overthrow the cyclists their favorite terrain. The hill top village of Gordes which rises above the valley has got the most impressive breathtaking view point in the area. I would take a picture to change your Facebook profile picture and avoid taking a selfi killing 5 times more than shark attacks. We will discover the vibrant colours of Roussillon and the charming village of Lourmarin where we will meet there may be the granddaughter of Albert Camus.
Nice visit to a local market and walks through very quaint Provençal towns. Stops for lavender fields and Sunflowers. Simone was friendly and communicated well. He had good knowledge of the area and communicated that knowledge to us. We have already recommended to friends.
Simon tailored the tour of the Luberon Villages to accommodate two octogenarians with one using a walker. We were able to see the four villages he took us to with adjusting the amount of walking we had to do, but he insured that we would be able to feel the essence of the region. Truly a breathtaking tour.
