Kunshan lies between Shanghai and Suzhou, with an approximately 80km one-way drive. The itinerary starts at the millennium-old Chongyuan Temple by Yangcheng Lake, home to China’s largest indoor standing Guanyin statue (33 meters tall) – solemn and serene. Its lotus pond in midsummer is a top spot for enjoying lotus flowers in Jiangnan. At noon, savor the world-famous Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs at a featured restaurant. In the afternoon, first visit the Chinese Opera Museum (hometown of Kunqu Opera, China’s elegant traditional opera), then head to Tinglin Garden, a historic cultural garden in downtown Kunshan.
