The best way to visit the Water Town Zhouzhuang
Overview of your Shanghai tour
Have you ever heard about Chinese Venice ? As you may know there are several watertowns in and around Shanghai such as Zhujiajiao, Zhouzhuang, Tongli, Wuzhen, Xitang, Nanxun, etc. Among all of them, Zhouzhuang is the No 1. It earns the reputation due to its rich history, well-preserved houses, old and famous bridges and Kun Opera. If you would like to get away from the bustling city and Slowly down your pace to have a different day, this will be the right one. The tour will allow you to walk through long, narrow, rugged and uneven flagstone paved alleys to smell the flavors from local kitchens, talk with locals while sitting in Chinese "gondola " through the ancient canals, try some local cuisines for lunch, have a sip of tea in the old style stage and enjoy local operas. Though the show is in local dialect, I guarantee you enjoy listening the tones and the performance. Personally I think I have been to Zhouzhuang more than hundreds of times, everytime I go there , I still enjoy it a lot.
Your Shanghai tour itinerary
Guide and driver will meet you in your hotel lobby at 8:30am or anytime you prefer. You will drive from your hotel to Zhouzhuang (1. 5 hours) since Zhouzhuang is about 60km from downtown Shanghai. After arrive in Zhouzhuang, your tour will start from the ancient arches and then walk along the ancient canals to feel the water atmosphere, old stone-made bridges and local houses. Then you will see one of the oldest official government house, Zhang's hall, which was originally built in the Ming Dynasty. Next, you will be taken to one of the richest residential houses, the Shen's Family Hall which is from the Qing Dynasty. This will help give different perspectives of houses during the different dynasties. After, take a wooden boat in an ancient canal which is one of the highlights of visiting Zhouzhuang. Watch ancient Kung opera in the stage. Drive you back to Shanghai and drop you off in your hotel at the end of the tour around 4:30pm. FYI: Tour itineraries can be customized.
