Hello, I'm Jin, a licensed English-speaking tour guide based in Shanghai. For more than 15 years, I have been helping visitors discover Shanghai and eastern China. On this private full-day tour, you'll discover the city's famous specialties while exploring historic neighborhoods, lively food streets, and authentic restaurants loved by generations of Shanghainese. We'll travel like locals by metro and on foot, enjoying iconic dishes such as xiaolongbao, shengjianbao, scallion oil noodles, pork chop with rice cakes, traditional pastries, and more. Because this is a private tour, every culinary experience can be customized. We can enjoy lunch at one of Shanghai's famous historic restaurants, dine at a neighborhood restaurant loved by locals, or explore the lively Old City food market where you can sample a variety of authentic street foods. Many of the restaurants and food stalls on this tour have been serving Shanghainese families for decades and are destinations that many visitors would never discover on their own.
Your Shanghai tour itinerary
This is a sample itinerary. As this is a private tour, I can adjust the start time, route, restaurants, food market visit, and Shanghai specialties to create the perfect experience for you. Meet at your hotel at 9:00am before travelling by metro to Shanghai's historic Old City. We'll explore the traditional streets around Yu Garden while discovering how Shanghai's unique food culture developed. Depending on your interests, we can sample authentic street food at the lively Old City food market or enjoy famous soup dumplings at the legendary Nanxiang Restaurant. Continue to Yunnan South Road Food Street to taste more Shanghai specialties. Lunch can be enjoyed at one of Shanghai's historic restaurants or at a neighborhood favorite loved by local families. In the afternoon, explore Nanjing Road and the beautiful Former French Concession while enjoying more local specialties before returning around 6:30 pm.
