Explore Hong Kong your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Hong Kong tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Hong Kong for every interest, including:

Boat tours: Board a restored Chinese junk at Central Pier for a sunset sweep across Victoria Harbour, then ride a private sampan into Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter to see fishing junks and floating seafood kitchens up close. Your guide can arrange a kai-to to Sai Kung’s sea arches in the UNESCO Global Geopark or a harbour cruise timed for Symphony of Lights.

Food and Drink tours: Snack your way through Sham Shui Po with fresh rice rolls at Hop Yik Tai, a cup of milk tea at a classic cha chaan teng, and tofu pudding at Kung Wo, then finish with warm egg tarts from Tai Cheong Bakery in Central. For dinner, your guide can snag a table for roast goose at Yat Lok and lead a dai pai dong crawl that includes cold beer and wok hei stir-fries.

History tours: Trace the Dr Sun Yat-sen Historical Trail through Central and Sheung Wan, step into incense-hazed Man Mo Temple, and explore the courtyards of Tai Kwun, the former Central Police Station turned heritage centre. Across the harbour, visit Kowloon Walled City Park to see stone foundations and the Yamen, then walk the Ping Shan Heritage Trail in Yuen Long for ancestral halls and a centuries-old pagoda.

Most neighbourhoods are walkable, and the MTR, trams, buses, and ferries make tours easy to link across the harbour. For farther-flung spots like Sai Kung, Tai O, or New Territories heritage trails, you can ask your local guide about chauffeured tours or private transportation.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Hong Kong inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Hong Kong

If you want a change of scene without going far, plan day trips from Hong Kong to nearby islands, heritage towns, and quiet coasts that feel a world away yet fit into one easy day.

Lantau Island: Visit the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery, then head to Tai O to see stilt houses and quiet lanes, with simple seafood spots along the water. You can add an easy coastal walk or a beach stop, and your tour can lean into hiking, culture, or food, depending on what you like most.

Macau: Take the fast ferry for tiled lanes, Chinese temples, and the UNESCO-listed old quarter around Senado Square and the Ruins of St. Paul’s, plus classic snacks like egg tarts. Your tour can stay focused on history and neighbourhood cafés, or branch out to Taipa’s side streets for a calm, slow wander.

Sai Kung and the Geopark: Start in the harbour town for a simple seafood lunch, then ride a small boat to see volcanic rock formations and quiet coves, with short hikes to soft-sand beaches if you want to stretch your legs. Your tour can go heavy on boats and views or keep it light with village time and a swim.

New Territories Walled Villages: Walk the Ping Shan Heritage Trail past ancestral halls, a pagoda, and old clan villages, then slip into local markets in Yuen Long for fruit, sweets, and tea. Your tour can connect village lanes, temples, and light rail hops so you see daily life without rushing.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Hong Kong most travellers miss.
