Welcome to Hong Kong, I am Amy O, originally from the UK, but I have called Hong Kong my home for the last sixteen years. I have had both my children in Hong Kong, emigrating from London, UK in 2010. When I moved, my goal was never to be an outsider in this city, and so I spent the time (trying) to learn the language and all about its history and people. Sharing these insights with overseas guests and being your friend in Hong Kong is what I am most passionate about. Why consider a private tour? Because Hong Kong is at its most magnificent up close and personal! Not only that, with me around, you can ask any question that springs to mind, eat items you may have been reluctant to try, learn how to use the public transport system, adapt the itinerary and to give you the in depth understanding and enjoyable day you're looking for. I always want you to get the most from Hong Kong and so will adapt the tour to suit you. Whether you want to see the famous skyline, ride the tram or Star Ferry, keep the kids entertained, go to the historic neighbourhoods or visit a local Hong Konger in their home, I have the perfect itinerary for you. My most popular tour is the six-hour "Peaks to Piers - a perfect introductory day tour of Hong Kong" for two people, but this is also available for solo travellers and larger groups. I can also provide private transport for the tour, and getting around Hong Kong during the day time is very easy and smooth. I am also one of the only guides who can provide car transportation within the restricted zones of Lantau Island for the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. This tour is "Lantau Island Private Half-Day Tour with Private Transportation". Car tours are certainly good in the hot summer weather and / or if you have any accessibility needs. I can also offer tours on bicycles (in the rural areas like the New Territories), and in a private vehicle. My tours are tailor-made, so if you have any specific wishes, it can absolutely be sorted for you. Over my twelve years as a tour guide, I have been asked for many things… Organising a marriage proposal on Repulse Bay beach at the God of Marriages; hunting for a former RAF base in the New Territories; eating novelty dim sum which vomits(!); to holding snakes and visiting a local in their "average" sized apartment. You name it, we've done it! Have a look at my tours to give you some ideas as well, or direct message me. I love guiding, it's such a lovely job and I am truly energised by the people I meet. Be it families, couples or small groups, I learn something from you every time and always feel like I have found new friends in the far corners of the world. I have been with ToursByLocals since 2013 and have achieved the top rating, I have also been awarded the Certificate of Excellence 6 years in a row and the Traveller's Choice in 2020 (back when Hong Kong was last open for tourism!!). Hopefully you will see this reflected in my reviews as well. Book a tour with me, I look forward to greeting you! 15th year living in Hong Kong and over 10 years as a private guide 5* rating for all Tours by Locals guests, with over 200 tours completed Hosted live on ITV's "This Morning" programme from the Hong Kong Star Ferry Native English speaker born in UK Hong Kong Tourism Board guide for overseas media and guests Tourist Guide Licence TG12131 Travel Agent Licence 354203

Overview of your Hong Kong tour

Known as "the lungs of Hong Kong", lush, tropical Lantau is the territory's largest island, with a sleepy charm that invites you to step back through history to a simpler age. The vast majority of this 147 square-kilometre island remains undeveloped, offering a blissfully tranquil antidote to Hong Kong's infamous bustle. As such, very few vehicles have permanent access to drive on this beautiful island, but it has been arranged for this tour especially. Let us seamlessly navigate you and your guests through Lantau's highlights on this half-day private car tour.

Amy is an amazing guide, she has great knowledge of Hong Kong and she has a knack of making your feel like your spending the day with an old friend. I think this was my favorite Hong Kong tour. Lantau Island is a short 20-30 minute car ride from central Hong Kong, but it feels like you are much further away when you get there. Amy will take you to a small, traditional fishing village, where you will take a boat ride (and maybe see pink dolphins) to see the traditional houses built on stilts in the water. Then you will stroll through the village and see how the locals live and make their livings. Then you will make your way up to the big buddha and the nearby temple, and then have a relaxing trip down on the cable car. Amy is a phenomenal guide for this trip. She interacts with the locals, tells stories, and provides the historical context. I highly recommend her.

This is the second tour we did with Amy in Hong Kong but I need to repeat myself! Amy is an incredible tour guide and 5 stars is simply not giving her enough credit! She has an encyclopedic knowledge of the sites she is showing, is a great communicator (native English speaker), and is very friendly and personable. We had a nice air conditioned Mercedes with a great driver. My wife uses a wheelchair at times and Amy insisted on pushing her throughout the tour leaving me free to walk and take photos. Her guidance and explanations at the Big Buddha and Monastery were key to getting a full appreciation of these sites. We then toured the fascinating Tai O fishing village with Amy still pushing my wife! She found a local Dim Sum restaurant where we had a delicious lunch before a boat ride tour of the area. We even saw a dolphin capping the perfect day. I cannot recommend Amy highly enough!
