Central Park's famous highlights and delightful surprises. This is my favorite place in New York City! You've seen it in the movies and on TV. The world's most famous park, making its surrounding neighborhoods fabulous, while taming a once notoriously violent city. A successful social experiment, one of the first free public parks, the park for the people, a refuge for nature. Yet, it is a work of art, a nature-themed park, made by and for pictures. It went through tough times, and now it is better than ever, thanks to volunteers and New Yorkers pulling together for their park. A new model supporting parks improving people and cities today. In a city of concrete, lights, advertisements, and shadows, our parks are a surprisingly vital and important part of our lives, neighborhoods, metropolis, and world history. What makes my tour special: How Beauty relates to Ideas, History, and Feelings. Every day I tour is a good day. Every day I visit Central Park is a GREAT DAY!
Delight in Central Park's icons: - The Great Lake - Bow Bridge - Strawberry Fields - Not the Friends Fountain (?!) - Bethesda Fountain (in movies) - The Ramble - Belvedere Castle - The Pond (in movies) - Balto, the dog hero - Sheep Meadow - Alice in Wonderland Statue - Cleopatra's Needle - The Arcade, and and a bit of luxurious local neighborhoods. Enjoy miles of walking, stairs, hills, and rustic conditions. Route can be accommodated with advance notice. Add time for more Central Park surprises: War of 1812 ruins and a self-supporting arch made of boulders! Central Park's environs, including parts of its 7 neighborhoods, or nearby museums (admission fees). Compare the Highline, Washington Square, Tompkins Square, Bowling Green & Battery Park, or outside the last private park, Gramercy, or maybe Community Gardens. Learn how they fit into history and their neighborhoods. You will be amazed about the beauty of NYC's green world & its importance.

We can go entirely by foot for free in 'the Park for the People,' but if we go beyond the park, Transportation options will be at your expense: By foot (still free!); Subway $2.75 per ride (in 2018), and/or UberXL or Lyft Plus for over 1 guest (variable); or Uber or cab for 1 guest (variable); If you have your own vehicle, I can join you in your car. I can provide a contact for a local rental agency if needed.
