On this historical driving tour you will see The Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield and National Park Museum. The fall of Atlanta in 1864 was pivotal in determining the war's outcome. This important Union victory assured U. S. president Abraham Lincoln's reelection and ultimately led to the Confederates defeat. On June 27, 1864, Kennesaw Mountain, located about twenty miles northwest of Atlanta in Cobb County, became the scene for one of the Atlanta campaign's major actions in the Civil War (1861-65). On to Stone Mountain Park to visit the Stone Mountain Confederate Memorial Carving that depicts three Confederate leaders of the Civil War, President Jefferson Davis and Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson. A lunch stop (Optional) The Atlanta History Center & Cyclorama. The Big Picture, featuring the fully restored cyclorama painting, The Battle of Atlanta.
