I've been touring with groups in Alabama since 1991 and have watched as cities like Montgomery, Selma and Birmingham, have begun embracing their Civil Rights history. In Selma, you will walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge and you will see the Brown A. M. E. Chapel where marchers were organized and prepared for the Selma to Montgomery March in 1965. In Montgomery they are now celebrating their Civil War and Civil Rights history with museums and tours and are eagerly telling their stories. You too, will see how history has changed Alabama. The new Equal Justice Initiative's Legacy Museum and the Memorial for Peace and Justice will take you from slavery to mass Incarceration and the Rosa Parks Museum is located at the exact spot of Ms. Park's arrest on December 1, 1955. While at the Dexter Avenue Baptist King Memorial Baptist Church, you will sit in the pews where history was made. Our tour guide, Mr. Roger Pennyman took us to see many of the historical sights in Atlanta, Selma and Montgomery. His love for his subject matter was apparent in the generous offering of his time and the demonstration of his broad knowledge of history. Mr.Pennyman brought history alive and provided us with a greater understanding of what our people went through to survive and how we continue to thrive in spite of the many social obstacles and challenges that we must overcome. I had very high expectations for this tour and they were exceeded in every way. Roger is prompt, thoughtful, engaging, great at making connections, and patient. You do need to be prepared for a long day but time flew as we learned and talked and grieved and wondered and learned and talked some more. Of course the Equal Justice Initiative's astonishing museum and park (soon to be parks!) in Montgomery were highlights but there so were the many smaller moments and new connections. Thank you Roger.

Roger took us on a customised private tour from Atlanta, to Birmingham, Selma, Tuskegee and Montgomery. He had an in depth knowledge of the events and people of the Civil Rights movement and related these to the towns and landmarks we visited. Also, he gave an excellent account of slavery, the Reconstruction and the Jim Crow era predating the 1960s, and the entrenched racism that has divided America right up to George Floyd. Exceeded our expectations. Thank you Roger for an educational day!
