My home city is an incredible place and I am fortunate to have lived here for many years. I grew up in York and, despite working away in other parts of England at times, I have always come back to York. As a local I am passionate about York and I like nothing more than to show it off to visitors, passing on my enthusiasm and knowledge of the places that make it so special. For nearly 30 years I have been a geography teacher and I am also a trained geologist, with real interest in the natural world. I can tell you about the history of York, from the Romans to the present day, I can show you how nature and the city come together, and we can even investigate the origins of the stone that makes up the buildings. On or off the beaten track, my tours will give you a real flavour of York and an understanding of what makes this city tick. All my tours can be customized upon request Qualified Geography teacher Masters degree in geology UK Mountain Leader Educated at St. Peter's School in York I will not be able to guide you inside some of the historical monuments, so tours do not go inside some locations, unless pre-arranged.

York is amazing. King George VI once said, 'The history of York is the history of England'. Well he wasn't wrong. The city has been home to Romans, Saxons, Vikings and Normans. It has been the 'capital' of the north and has been a centre for trade, commerce and power through the centuries. Today York is a vibrant, modern city with one of the best windows on the past that you will ever find. Join me on a walk around York's famous city walls, the most complete in the country. See how the walls, and the fortifications that preceded them, have protected the city since the Romans arrived in 71AD. View the ancient and modern city from this unrivalled perspective and take a walk through hundreds of years of history.
We will follow the city walls in a clockwise direction, starting and finishing at any of the entry points to the walls and we will step away from the walls at various points to visit places of interest. For the purposes of this itinerary, the start and finish point is outside the city library on Museum Street. -Museum Gardens, Multangular Tower and St. Mary's Abbey. -Bootham Bar -'Robin Hood' Tower -Monk Bar -The River Foss -Red Tower -Walmgate Bar -Fishergate Tower -The River Ouse -Baile Hill -Micklegate Bar -Railway station -Barker Tower -Museum Gardens
