My home city is an incredible place and I am fortunate to have lived here for many years. I grew up in York and, despite working away in other parts of England at times, I have always come back to York. As a local I am passionate about York and I like nothing more than to show it off to visitors, passing on my enthusiasm and knowledge of the places that make it so special. For nearly 30 years I have been a geography teacher and I am also a trained geologist, with real interest in the natural world. I can tell you about the history of York, from the Romans to the present day, I can show you how nature and the city come together, and we can even investigate the origins of the stone that makes up the buildings. On or off the beaten track, my tours will give you a real flavour of York and an understanding of what makes this city tick. All my tours can be customized upon request Qualified Geography teacher Masters degree in geology UK Mountain Leader Educated at St. Peter's School in York I will not be able to guide you inside some of the historical monuments, so tours do not go inside some locations, unless pre-arranged.

Overview of your York tour

Now that you have chosen to visit this amazing, fascinating and beautiful city, what better way to get to know York than a tour of the highlights that the city has to offer. York is a city with a window into history, but with a modern twist. I grew up here, attending a school founded in the seventh century, surrounded by history, absorbing the sights and sounds of a city rooted in Roman history, Viking invasion and medieval mystery. York is a cultural melting pot, a window into the history of England within a small and accessible area and you can experience all this with a guide who loves nothing more than to show visitors the best parts of his home city. Join me for this exciting, introductory tour of my home city. I think it's amazing and I'm sure that you will too.

Other: This tour introduces you to the highlights of York. We do not go into locations such as the Minster, the Jorvik Centre, or other paid/pre-bookable attractions, rather observe and learn about them from the outside.
