Sometimes known as England's second city, York's tangible history goes back centuries. A one-time capital city, York was founded by the Romans, inhabited by the Vikings, destroyed by William the Conquerer, and played a key role in the Wars of the Roses and Civil Wars before finding it's place as an early railway hub and confectionery manufacturing Mecca.
