Oxford is one of the most haunted places in Britain, with good reason. It was the murder capital of medieval England, largely due to its extremely badly behaved student population. I will take you on a tour round the city's most sinister streets and baddest back-alleys, where we will hear about the terrible events that have left so many spirits wandering eternally. Burning bishops. Enraged poltergeists. Abandoned lovers. The devil himself!! All have made their restless presence felt over the centuries and if we're (un)lucky, we might spot one of them tonight - it has happened on my past tours. . . This tour needs to take place when it's dark, as that's when 'they' come out. It could well be cold, so please dress accordingly. But as we know, all the best ghost stories take place on a dark and stormy night. Suitable for children over 12, younger children at parents’ discretion - the descriptions do get a bit gory…
We will begin at St Michael's tower on the ancient street of Cornmarket, where the decapitated heads of executed prisoners used to be displayed to all who entered, as a warning. . . Our itinerary will include: - the place three bishops were burned by Bloody Mary - a haunted pub overlooked by a haunted tower - two colleges whose eccentric past members continue to make their presence felt - a site of recent poltergeist activity - officially the most terrifying building in Oxford - spooky Merton street where a famous author's ghost often leaves a whiff of tobacco smoke in his wake - the place where someone died possibly the grossest death imaginable - Brasenose Lane, where the Devil himself once came a-calling - with horrifying results
