Overview of your Girona tour

You will learn the history of the Catalan Jews that lived in Girona from 898 until 1492. The Girona Jewish quarter is a labyrinth of little streets and old courtyards, one of the most well-preserved in Europe from the medieval period. If you have been a few days in Barcelona and you are tired of the tourist crowds, the ancient city of Girona is the perfect place to visit to escape the bustle of Barcelona. Girona is only 36 minutes taking the speed train and by car it is only 100 km. Tour is very flexible if there is something that you want to change during the tour is also possible. If you want to visit the Girona Jewish museum, let me know during the tour, and we can finish the tour there. To visit the museum calculate at least 30 minutes.

We participated in an excellent morning tour with Miquel. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the Jewish people in Girona and discussed how they were exiled or absorbed into the Catalonian population through conversion, coercion and survival strategies. Miquel was patient and receptive to all of our question. He also kept our teenage son engaged by occasionally diverting into local football chat and including fun facts about Game of Thrones and showing scenes on his phone where they were filmed. Communication in advance was prompt and he picked us up on time at the train station and drove us to the starting point. We highly recommend touring the Jewish quarter in Girona with Miquel!

We really enjoyed this tour! Miquel was extremely knowledgable and explained the history of the Catalan Jews that lived in Girona, in great detail. Wandering around the narrow alley ways with Miquel really brought the layers of history to life. I highly recommend this tour!

Insightful glimpse into Girona with a true local! We enjoyed our tour with Miquel, who grew up in Girona and shared the history of Girona and interesting anecdotes about how life has changed in his town over the past 30 years. He offered to meet us at the train station and walked us back there after the tour. He tailored the tour to our interests. We highly recommend this experience and found that about an hour was the ideal length for our family. A half-day isn’t really necessary to get a great overview.

Learned a lot and very much enjoyed this walking tour of Girona. Miguel also helped with post-tour restaurant and gelato recommendations and our return train tickets. Couldn’t ask for a nicer morning!

It was a very nice and informative tour. Miquel also gave us recommendations to further enjoy Girona, which we used successfully throughout the day after our tour.
