Dear friends, my name is Juraj and I am a historian, a mountaineer as well as a certified tourist guide offering private tours in Bratislava, Trnava and Central Slovakia. I have been guiding tourists for more than seven years and I love the job. Cultural tourism is my main focus, however, I also offer various general tours in towns. Moreover, I love good wine, so I can take you to some really beautiful old wine cellars. I lived in Bratislava for more than 12 years, where I studied at the University and did my PhD. When not doing research in libraries, you could find me wandering through the old town cobbled streets, exploring surrounding lush forests or canoeing on the Danube. Currently, I live in Trnava, a lovely medieval town just half an hour drive from Bratislava. We could go for a walking tour or for a half-day/full-day trip to discover rich history of this small yet splendid country in the heart of Europe. My credentials: - certified tourist guide - certified Bratislava Castle guide - MA in History - PhD in Late Antique/Early Medieval History - first aid course Few explanations: - due to legal regulations I cannot guide on the trails in National Parks and in the mountains - 90% of my tours through ToursByLocals are tailor-made, so do not hesitate to contact me and ask for a tour that fits your interests - my clients are well-educated and curious travellers who ask many questions and I find it incredibly pleasant to listen to your question and interests, so our tour could take 30 minutes more than is written on the page. I do not charge extra money for that half an hour. Quite often we end up in a cafe and continue our discussions after the tour. Looking forward to seeing you in Slovakia.

Western Slovakia is the warmest and most fertile part of Slovakia, abounding in fields, vineyards, forests and rivers. Thanks to its mild climate it has been flourishing since antiquity - the Romans brought viticulture there. On this tour you will have the chance to taste ''Silvanus'', a Roman wine. On our way to Trnava we will visit the Červený Kameň (Red Stone) Castle, which was heavily rebuilt in the 16th century and became a mighty renaissance fortress designed to protect the riches of the first European corporation, the Thurzo-Fugger Copper Company, in the perilous times of Turkish Wars. The city of Trnava, built by medieval Slovaks and Germans, was a luxurious residence of Hungarian kings and a political and diplomatic centre of their realm. Its skyline is adorned with many bell towers and its urban area by the longest preserved medieval walls in Slovakia, which protected the churches and colleges of the baroque Jesuit University from Ottoman raids. But despite the Turks life has always been sweet.
We will go from Bratislava to the Červený Kameň Castle for a guided tour. - After that we will visit Trnava, - have lunch and a small surprise. - Meals and historical monuments need to be digested, so we will spend some time in a wine cellar at the foothills of the Little Carpathians. - When you come back to the hotel you can call it a day. Please take into account that the Červený Kameň Castle is closed on Mondays from October till May, however, if you would like to book this trip on Monday I will be more than glad to make some changes and tailor it according to your wishes. English speaking tour takes place at 11. 30 on Saturdays and Sundays in May and June and every day from July till September. Slovak tours take place every hour and I can interpret.
