Dear friends, my name is Juraj and I am a historian, a mountaineer as well as a certified tourist guide offering private tours in Bratislava, Trnava and Central Slovakia. I have been guiding tourists for more than seven years and I love the job. Cultural tourism is my main focus, however, I also offer various general tours in towns. Moreover, I love good wine, so I can take you to some really beautiful old wine cellars. I lived in Bratislava for more than 12 years, where I studied at the University and did my PhD. When not doing research in libraries, you could find me wandering through the old town cobbled streets, exploring surrounding lush forests or canoeing on the Danube. Currently, I live in Trnava, a lovely medieval town just half an hour drive from Bratislava. We could go for a walking tour or for a half-day/full-day trip to discover rich history of this small yet splendid country in the heart of Europe. My credentials: - certified tourist guide - certified Bratislava Castle guide - MA in History - PhD in Late Antique/Early Medieval History - first aid course Few explanations: - due to legal regulations I cannot guide on the trails in National Parks and in the mountains - 90% of my tours through ToursByLocals are tailor-made, so do not hesitate to contact me and ask for a tour that fits your interests - my clients are well-educated and curious travellers who ask many questions and I find it incredibly pleasant to listen to your question and interests, so our tour could take 30 minutes more than is written on the page. I do not charge extra money for that half an hour. Quite often we end up in a cafe and continue our discussions after the tour. Looking forward to seeing you in Slovakia.

It might seem that Bratislava is the capital of a young country. But. . . actually it is the oldest capital in Central Europe, even older than London. We will visit four highlights that witness its regional and international glory. Places connected to mighty kings, pious friars and capable mayors - the Castle, St. Martin's Cathedral, Franciscan Church and the Old Town Hall. Four monuments, four stories starting from the time of Celts through the reign of medieval and Habsburg kings to Communism. We will go inside the Castle Museum, St. Martin's Cathedral, Franciscan Church and finish with a lovely view of the Old Town from the Town Hall tower.
We can meet in front of the Vienna Gate of the Bratislava Castle or I can pick you up in the centre. - First we will visit the Castle and the History Museum. - Then we will walk downhill to the St. Martin's Cathedral, - stroll down the oldest street towards the Franciscan Church and - within striking distance is the Old Town Hall. Please take into account that the History Museum is closed on Tuesdays and the Old Town Hall is closed on Mondays, however, if you come to Bratislava on Monday and would like to take a cultural tour, I will be more than glad to make some changes and tailor it according to your wishes.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
Walking tour If you choose your hotel/city centre as the departure point, we will take a taxi. The tour might take up to 4.5 hours. It depends on your interest in the History Museum at the Castle and in St Martin´s.

Airport: ,Cruise: ,ByGuide: The best meeting point is at the Vienna Gate of the Bratislava Castle (48°08'31.6"N 17°05'54.5"E). It is the gate opposite the Slovak Parliament. If we meet at that spot, we will save time for the tour itself. I will also hold a sign with your name.
