Dear friends, my name is Juraj and I am a historian, a mountaineer as well as a certified tourist guide offering private tours in Bratislava, Trnava and Central Slovakia. I have been guiding tourists for more than seven years and I love the job. Cultural tourism is my main focus, however, I also offer various general tours in towns. Moreover, I love good wine, so I can take you to some really beautiful old wine cellars. I lived in Bratislava for more than 12 years, where I studied at the University and did my PhD. When not doing research in libraries, you could find me wandering through the old town cobbled streets, exploring surrounding lush forests or canoeing on the Danube. Currently, I live in Trnava, a lovely medieval town just half an hour drive from Bratislava. We could go for a walking tour or for a half-day/full-day trip to discover rich history of this small yet splendid country in the heart of Europe. My credentials: - certified tourist guide - certified Bratislava Castle guide - MA in History - PhD in Late Antique/Early Medieval History - first aid course Few explanations: - due to legal regulations I cannot guide on the trails in National Parks and in the mountains - 90% of my tours through ToursByLocals are tailor-made, so do not hesitate to contact me and ask for a tour that fits your interests - my clients are well-educated and curious travellers who ask many questions and I find it incredibly pleasant to listen to your question and interests, so our tour could take 30 minutes more than is written on the page. I do not charge extra money for that half an hour. Quite often we end up in a cafe and continue our discussions after the tour. Looking forward to seeing you in Slovakia.

Zahorie region (Zahorie, i. e. behind the mountains) is very unique part of Slovakia although it is mostly neglected by tourists. So, prepare to meet locals. I picked up three hidden gems. 1) A baroque basilica financed by empress Maria Theresa and her husband. A piece of Vienese baroque architecture in the countryside. 2) A picturesque market town Skalica with many old houses, churches, monasteries and alleys with trees that offers a special cake - or better to say they sell a hole in cake. It tells you something about the mentality of the locals. That hole is just delicious. You should try it. 3) Branc Castle - you have probably never heard about this castle. Anyway, Slovakia has got more than 160 castles and this one is neglected by many Slovaks too. But it is easy to get there and the views are beatiful becasue the countryside with rolling hills, woods and meadows is beatiful. Join me and discover a neglected region north-west of Bratislava.
- pick up at your hotel in Bratislava - visit to the baroque Basilica of Our Lady of Sorrows at Sastin-Straze - Slovak national shrine - guided tour of Skalica - lovely and peaceful market town at the Slovak-Czech border - visit to the medieval Branc Castle - a picturesque ruined medieval castle with breathtaking views of the countryside - return to Bratislava
