I'm a born and bred Wellingtonian who loves showcasing our city to visitors. I have over 10 years Guide experience and in that time I have specialised in smaller personalised tours travelling in a luxury 4WD. I offer a wide array of tours from Wellington Full Day tours to Wine and Craft Beer tours and we tour the greater Wellington region and the Wairarapa. Wellington is a cool little city with lots of hidden gems. Having lived here most of my life, I can show you these fascinating sites to enhance your experience. A good example is the Chocolate Fish cafe where we lunch. It has a full menu but specialises in seafood delicacies, some of which are only found in New Zealand. Wellington also has a coffee and craft beer culture which you can experience on your tour. I like most Kiwis am fun loving, easy going, approachable yet recognise the importance of maintaining high standards to ensure our customers have a day in Wellington to remember. When you book with me the day is all about you and we can be flexible to alter your tour upon demand if required. Outside of taking tours I'm keen on sports (football and golf in particular) and enjoy spending time with family and friends. Wellington has more restaurants per capita than New York so there are never any shortage of places to meet up for a good time. I have been awarded a Silver Accreditation by Qualmark NZ, the official Tourism accreditor in NZ. I am a member of Skal Wellington, an International Association of Travel and Tourism professionals. I have a Defensive Driving Award issued by the Automobile Association of NZ and am First Aid Certified should the need arise. My 4WD car can take up to 3 paying passengers comfortably. For larger groups we have access to a 12 seater minivan. I do not have any restrictions in regard to my guiding and can offer a full range of experiences.

Overview of your Wellington tour

After picking you up from your location of choice at 9. 30am, we travel leisurely through the Hutt Valley and on to the Rimutaka Ranges. We stop at the top to admire the view then drive down to the sleepy town of Featherston, before heading to the classically restored township of Greytown. We travel through typical rural New Zealand countryside featuring sheep, cattle and deer, before arriving at Martinborough, where we tour the town and visit a local winery to sample their internationally renowned Pinot Noir wines. We then continue south to the historic Lake Ferry pub for traditional fishnchips Kiwi style. Many argue these are indeed the finest in the country. After lunch we follow the coastline to the picturesque fishing village of Ngawi and an encounter with the seal colony featuring grey fur seals and their pups. We continue following the rugged Southern coast around to the light house at Cape Palliser. You won't want to return to Wellington after uncovering this hidden gem of a region.

John was an interesting and informative guide. He introduced us to a beautiful area lush with plants, and areas that looked prehistoric. He drove us along the coastline with quaint fishing villages. We stopped at a small seal colony were we were up close, watching their antics. We stopped for lunch at a remote restaurant with the “best fish & chips in NZ.” John was not exaggerating, the outdoor lunch was amazing. Gary S.

Very Flexible! He changed the plan of the day for us based on the weather. John gave us the option of the original tour, but we would not have enjoyed the winery in the rain and there would have been no food views from the mountains. The weather was stormy so we decided to stay closer to town, Ended up being a very different tour than we had planned, but it was a great day. Visited the Weta Workshop and the museum. Both were worth visiting and we loved what we ended up doing. John did a great job of making it a great day in Wellington. I would highly recommend him as a guide to make the most of your time

Our guide, John, was a delightful guy - very knowledgeable and accommodating. We very much enjoyed his company. We saw all of the sites, just as advertised. Be aware however that over fours of this tour is in the vehicle over very mountainous terrain - not for the feint at heart!

Great tour with a great guide! John was very responsive to our needs, listened to what we wanted to see, and delivered on that exactly. We had a lovely drive through the NZ countryside & vineyards, a fabulous fish & chips lunch, and absolutely LOVED seeing the seals up close & personal at Cape Palliser. We also saw the Cape Palliser lighthouse and even had time for a quick drive through the Wellington CBD. Highly recommend John!
