Day Tour to fez Medina with Meryem

Meryem was a wonderful guide for our time in Fez. She knows the Medina inside and out and gave us an excellent overview of the largest medina in the world. We loved visiting the local pottery workshops and the traditional tanneries, which gave us great insight into the city’s craftsmanship and history. Her restaurant recommendations were outstanding and truly enhanced our experience. This was a fantastic way to explore Fez and the surrounding area, and we would absolutely choose Meryem again for future visits.

Best tour guide ever! Meryem L. is a guide certified in Morocco, history, culture, and art. She also has a big heart and was very generous. We learned a tremendous amount about Fes and Morocco. We visited all the artisan cooperatives as that was a high priority of ours. We toured the mosaics, pottery, metal working, lamps, weaving, hand embroidery, leather, baking, and candy makers cooperatives. History and culture were also high on our list. Meryem took us to the hammams, university, King's palace, and Green March Day celebration concert in a local riad. We got to listen to the music and the women joined the women and children while the men in our group joined the men and musicians. She helped us dress appropriately and acted as our interpreter when needed, which was most of the time. Meryem also recommended restaurants for us that were entertaining and had delicious food.

Touring Fez under the scholarly and gracious hospitality of Meryem was nothing short of sublime. Meryem was sophisticated in all matters; history, economics, culture, architecture, food and crafts. This was my third visit to Fez-- I saw and sampled rarities that I had not known before. Meryem is warm, enthusiastic, and-- as a multi-generational resident of Fez, she opened a window for us on family and civic life-- what it was, how it is now, and where it may lead next. We recommend the amazing Meryem to any traveler to this fascinating city.

Our tour of Fes with Meryem was marvelous! She’s the perfect guide for this ancient city— she grew up here and seems to know her way around the maze of alleys without hesitation. Our itinerary was flexible and she adjusted it to meet our interests— history and culture— rather than shopping, but we ended up doing some of that too, with her expert guidance for bargaining. She gave us plenty of chances to rest, get tea, or a snack. I felt safe and comfortable with her from the moment we met. Our day together was fascinating and stimulating. She knows this city history well and answered all our questions, whether about the architecture of a 14th century madressa, or where current residents get water. Her English is great. I feel so fortunate to have had the chance to experience Fes with such a friendly & knowledgeable native! I recommend Meryem highly and most enthusiastically.
