Hi, my name is Francesco. I would like to welcome you to my warm and welcoming Emilia Romagna. I was born and raised in Ravenna but I have lived in Bologna for many years. I am a tour guide and a tour leader with a regular license and since I am a professional wine taster I have chosen to tell my territory giving great importance to the food and wine aspect. First of all I would say that I feel like a traveler. I have had travel experience on almost every continent. As a traveler, I like to blend in with the local people and learn from them the secrets of the place visited. In every place I visit then, I love to taste the local delicacies. I also give great importance to storytelling. To what and how say something, for this reason I have devoted a lot of time to writing (another interest I have) and, lucky me. . . Overview of your Ravenna tour
If you want to get to know Ravenna in an half-day tour, this is certainly the one for you! Ravenna is the city where I was born and raised and where I took my first steps as a certified tour guide. This tour is primarily cultural, informative and with an in-depth look at the main monuments of the late Roman and Byzantine periods and mosaic art. We will visit some of the most beautiful monuments of early Christian history recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites. Your Ravenna tour itinerary
- Meeting point at the train station or at your accomodation in Ravenna - The first monument we will visit, where you can also stop to make or ask for tickets will be the Church of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, a UNESCO Heritage Site, which contains beautiful mosaics of the Goths and Byzantine period. - Outside there we will have a look to a modern mosaic workshop - Dante Alighieri's tomb and discover his relationship with the city in the so-called "zone of silence". - The Neonian Baptistery , dated first half of the fifth century. - Piazza del Popolo, the main square of the city - With a further walk of about 10 minutes we will reach the final point of our tour: Mausoleum of Galla Placidia and the Basilica of San Vitale. The tour, lasting about 3 hours, will end at the Basilica of San Vitale.
