Our experience with Janna was outstanding from beginning to end. She met us right at the cruise port and immediately made us feel like we were spending the day with a longtime friend rather than a tour guide. She is personable, genuinely funny, and speaks flawless English, making conversation effortless throughout the day. The scenic drive across Roatán was beautiful, and Janna shared interesting information about the island along the way. One thing that really stood out was how lush, green, and beautiful Roatán is. If you've only seen the immediate cruise port area, you really haven't experienced the island. We then enjoyed a peaceful journey through the mangrove tunnels, followed by a relaxing boat ride along the shoreline. What impressed us most was how quiet everything was. We didn't encounter other tour groups or crowds, making it feel like we had this beautiful part of the island entirely to ourselves. For the boat ride and snorkeling portion, we met Janna's associate, Jesus, who captained the boat and served as our snorkeling guide. He was friendly, professional, and took us to an excellent snorkeling spot away from any cruise ship crowds. We saw beautifully colored tropical fish, including what I believe was a parrotfish, and it was obvious they knew exactly where to take us for the best experience. It was relaxed, safe, and never felt rushed. After snorkeling, we returned through the mangrove tunnels with Janna and Jesus to her family's home, tucked away along the water. Her mother prepared an authentic homemade Honduran lunch that was one of the highlights of our entire cruise. The chicken was delicious, the beans and rice were outstanding, and my wife especially loved the local squash and vegetables. Sharing a meal with Janna while learning about life on Roatán made the experience feel incredibly authentic—something you simply don't get on large cruise ship excursions. This is exactly why we continue to book with ToursByLocals. Instead of being herded around with dozens of other passengers, it was just the two of us enjoying a personalized day with Janna and, during the boating and snorkeling portion, with Janna and Jesus. We were able to experience the real Roatán at our own pace. We enjoyed this excursion so much that we're already planning to return on another cruise in the future, this time bringing our nieces and nephew. We'll absolutely look up Janna again, whether for this same tour or one of the many other excursions she offers. If you're visiting Roatán by cruise ship and want to experience the real island—not just the tourist areas—I can't recommend Janna highly enough. She helped make Roatán one of our favorite ports in the Caribbean, and this was easily one of the best private shore excursions we've ever taken. We can't wait to return.
