Welcome to Berlin! It derserves your attention! It is the most interesting, dynamic and multifaceted city today. My name is Karin and I take great pleasure knowing that you have chosen Berlin for your visit and have a great desire that you come to understand this complex city so riddled with history. I am an experienced, knowledgable, certified local tour guide for Berlin and Potsdam. Even though I was born here, I did not grow up here. I came back to Berlin from Spain (with long interludes in Canada and California) in 1994. What I found was incredibly uniuqe: a city toppeling over with so much history and history in the making. From the first moment on I was spellbound. I became obsessed with its history and development. I talked to people both from the East and West to find out their stories and opinions. Today, I have the feeling Berlin is catching up with itself to finally reach its potential that was interupted with the rise of the 3rd. Reich. I want to share with you the love and compassion I have developed for Berlin and take you on that journey. Even though I have set private tours, they can be planed according to your interests and time. I give walking tours, tours using public transport, taxi, hired car or minivan. You can choose to have a general overview, or go in depth into a particular subject or neighbourhood. It is well worth your time. Explore different themes such as Jewish life then and now, the Cold War along with private life in Eastern Germany, Imperial Berlin, WWII as well as getting off the beaten track to show you the fascinating and varied neighbourhoods, each one with its own development and history. In all my private tours I use images and newspaper articles to illustrate the past and draw links to the present. My tours include recommendations to help you with any special interests or needs you might have. I am looking forward to meeting you! Discover the Beautiful Baltic Coast! Welcome to a region shaped by centuries of maritime power and trade. This is the birthplace of the Hanseatic League—a powerful alliance of merchant guilds dating back to 1240. At its height, around 200 cities traded spices, salt, timber, amber, and more, gaining great wealth and lasting influence. The legacy of this commerce still shapes the region. In Germany, we speak of the "Hanseatic character"—a blend of openness, honesty, reserve, and trustworthiness formed by centuries of steady trade. You’ll feel that spirit most in Lübeck, the pearl of the Hanseatic cities, where history and modern life blend beautifully. The calm confidence and charm of this place are everywhere. I’m truly excited to show you this city—to walk its streets, share its stories, and reveal how the past still lives in the present. Look forward to a meaningful and memorable day!
Step Back in Time on a Hanseatic Adventure This is an exciting tour which I love—because it’s an experience that transports you back through centuries of history, culture, and beauty. We’ll begin by picking you up at your ship, based on the details you provide. Our day starts with a scenic drive through the flat, open landscapes of Northern Germany, heading first to Wismar, a charming Hanseatic gem. Then on to Lübeck, the first Hanseatic city (1240), often called the "Pearl of the League." We’ll stop here for lunch or a light snack. In the afternoon, enjoy the countryside as we continue to Schwerin, to see a stunning fairy-tale castle often called the Neuschwanstein of the North. After a full day of discovery, we’ll return you safely and on time to your ship. Prefer to stay closer to the coast? We can switch Schwerin for Rostock—another beautiful and very interesting city! Just let me know! I’m happy to customize the tour—just get in touch!
