The Big Buddha & Lantau Island - Private Tour with Private Car

We enjoyed two wonderful days touring Hong Kong with Ashley. Ashley communicated with us well in advance of our tours to determine our personal interests and hopes for our trip. She then created custom itineraries for us so that we knew what to expect well in advance of arriving. Ashley coordinated our itineraries using both a private car and public transportation to maximize our time most efficiently. She was able to provide us with fun and enjoyable details about the history, culture, and daily living of Hong Kong. We enjoyed delicious local snacks and meals along the way. We loved our time with Ashley and highly recommend her without reservation.

We had a great time with Ashley. Her logistics/time management skills are excellent. She was probably the top guide for logistics we have had over many tours and different providers. Ashley was simply amazing! We rate tours on three aspects - sites visited during the tour, guide's knowledge of the sites, and logistics of getting us to and from the sites. Ashley hit a home run on all three categories. Further, Ashley's handling of logistics was probably the BEST of any tour we have had (and we have had quite a few across various providers). Details below We were in Hong Kong overnight. We used Ashley's Big Buddha tour as a start to customize a tour for day one. Ashley recommended that we would have a less touristy experience if we visited Tsz Shan Monastery in the New Territories and then have lunch at a local dim sum restaurant. We said sounds good, but also wanted to do the Big Buddha and crystal cable car ride. She said we could do both if we extended the day and used the private driver. We worked together to customize the itinerary. The Tsz Shan Monastery has the tallest bronze Buddha. It is actually painted a brilliant white using spacecraft coating. Underneath is a museum of Buddha statues going back through time. The earliest versions exhibited Greek and Roman aspects. There are also versions from Afghanistan (where the Taliban have destroyed the large statues). Visitors are limited to 400 people per day. We got to see the line of monks walking to various events. After asking our preferences, Ashley ordered various Cantonese dim sum dishes for us to try at the Royal China Aqua Garden in Sam Mum Tsai. Except for us, the patrons were all local people, some with their well-groomed and well-behaved dogs on a terrace overlooking the water. She took us to the Chinese University of Hong Kong to the Pavilion of Harmony on the hilltop for great views of the Tsz Shan Monastery, the Ting Kok Delta, the reservoir, and out to the China Sea. After driving across the Tsing Ma Bridge, we took the crystal cabin cable car to the Po Lin Monastery to see the Big Buddha. At the Monastery, she arranged for us to take a monastery car up to the Big Buddha because we were unable to climb the steps. We returned by the crystal cabin plus cable car, and then by car to the cruise ship. She suggested we get Peking Duck for dinner at a restaurant just 8 minutes walk from our ship. Sites - all top notch and more than we expected to see. Knowledge - extremely knowledgeable with answer to questions across many topics. Logistics - the best we have ever had. Luxury roomy SUV. Ashley arranged for the monastery car - our expectation was that we would see the Big Buddha from a distance due to our mobility issues. She knew when to schedule in the Big Buddha and that by using the crystal cabin up and the crystal cabin plus down, that we would be able to AVOID ANY waiting in line (cruise friends said they waited 1.5 hours in the priority queue first thing in the morning). Ashley expertly designed her tour to showcase a different side of Hong Kong: it's nature and simple fishing village life. We had a wonderful stroll through the island of Lantau, had a delicious lunch in a local restaurant, visited big Buddha statute and rode one of the longest cable cars in the world. Ashley shared her deep knowledge of history and we had spirited conversations about present and future of Hong Kong. This was a highlight of our long journey in South East Asia. Don't miss it!
