The tour will focus on key religious, archaeological, historical and cultural sites in Plovdiv, the artistic quarter of Plovdiv, and others. We will optimize our short stay in Bulgaria by staying one night in night in Plovdiv. In between the two cities, there are other additional cites of interest - Roman and Thracian. While driving we will also have time to discuss the role Bulgaria played during WW2 and other issues of interest.
Day 1. We will depart towards Plovdiv (with the option to visit a Roman fortress and / or a Thracian sanctuary with ancient wine producing gear). We will check -in at our Plovdiv base, and spend the rest of the day in the charming old town with its cobbly streets, old houses, the Roman theatre (operational), art galleries and more. Evenings in the old town are amazing. Day 2. Depending on our start time, we may have some more time to enjoy more of Plovdiv in the morning, after which we will visit either Assen's fortress and go winetasting, or we will visit the Rila or Bachkovo Monastery. Return to Sofia in the evening
