Dear visitors to Bulgaria, Even if you have come to Sofia and do not have much time, this tour will give you an excellent impression of Bulgarian countryside while travelling and a broader overview of Bulgarian history and culture. The tour is designed to accommodate in one day the best possible within 2 hrs. drive - Bachkovo monastery visit and Plovdiv - the Old Town and the central part of the second largest city in Bulgaria. For the whole day, in about 9 hrs. you will collect good memories about Bulgarian history and culture and also will have tasted some excellent typical Bulgarian meals right at the centre of Plovdiv.
I will pick you from any meeting point in Sofia - most likely your hotel. - We'll take the highway to Plovdiv, across the Thracian plain. - In two hours drive we'll be at the Bachkovo Monastery - founded in 11th century, second biggest in Bulgaria! A recommended visit to the Reffectory (dining room) can be done (8 BGN entrance fee, allowing you to also see the small chapel of St. Nicolas The Miracle Worker). - After having seen the monastery, we'll drive to Plovdiv - I will take you downtown where you may have your lunch at a traditional Bulgarian restaurant - interior and typical Bulgarian cuisine. Old Town sightseeing with its typical houses from mid 19th century. - A visit to the Ethnographical museum is recommended (8 BGN entrance fee or another house-museum depending on their opening times), you will see the Roman Theatre (entrancee fee 5BGN/person, optional) dating from 1st century and the church "St. st. Konstantine and Helena". - After lunch we'll drive back to Sofia.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
You will be collected from your hotel anywhere within Sofia. I use a 7-seater people carrier van.
