Sofia City Classic Walk

Welcome to Sofia - the Bulgarian capital since 1879! A cosmopolitan city with ancient history, with the motto - "Grows but does not age". A mixture of European and Eastern styles, a city of 16 universities, theatres, Roman remains and own atmosphere! Sofia is a capital city and in the same time the majority of the historical places related to the different events of the city's and country's history are located within walking distances between each other. Therefore we will explore my native city by foot, this way making it possible to spend different time at each spot depending on what your interests are - it might be that you are more interested in some socialistic history or we can focus on archaeology and the Roman ruins! Yes, Sofia has it all as a settlement with a history that spans for over 6 000 years!

During our 3-hour walk we will see the magnificent and the biggest Orthodox cathedral on the Balkans - "St. Alexander Nevski", the Parliament building, the wonderful statue of "Tsar Osvoboditel" - "King Liberator". Our walk will be as walking through time - we can visit the Roman ruins of ancient Serdica, and optionally we can get 9 meters underground to see the tombs at the Serdica Necropolis underneath "St. Sophia" basilica! Of course we cannot miss the fantastic early 20th century building of the National Theatre and the oldest preserved building of the "St'. George the Victorious" rotunda church, built at the time the city was the main residence of Constantine the Great in early 4th century AD. The city has its own charm with the tramcars, with the mineral water springs and the covered market nearby the Sofia Synagogue. Come explore Sofia!
