Mt. Field is a must-see and Will is an excellent guide. We enjoyed fresh-picked cherries and the changing landscape through various farming communities on the way to Mt. Field through the Derwent River valley. Mt. Field is home to diverse microclimates. Our first walk around Lake Dobson through the Pandani Grove was above the tree line at 3000’. Then we took the boardwalk a little way through the Moorland Mosaic where we found a fresh Wombat paw print and its cubic dung. Who knew that finding poop would be so exciting? After a delicious lunch at The Possum Shed (try the BLT), we returned to the park for the Tall Trees Walk, a giant fern and eucalyptus forest, to Russell and Horseshoe Falls. Natural beauty galore! Will's enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge about the flora, fauna and history of the park enhanced an already beautiful journey through the park.
