I thought long and hard about this rating....but I couldn't give it more. The tour guide in Chefchaouen was great...but that was it. 8+ hours of drive time was not worth it. If you are in the area...definitely stop and get a local guide. But don't book this one.
I have been touring with GateOne for quite a few years and this tour with Meryem was at the top. Not only did she take us to areas that we would never have guessed were there and where there were few if any tourists, but she also brought us to a family restaurant with scrumptious food where we also got to meet the proprietor cook and her family members and taste the food...
Meryem was a wonderful guide for our time in Fez. She knows the Medina inside and out and gave us an excellent overview of the largest medina in the world. We loved visiting the local pottery workshops and the traditional tanneries, which gave us great insight into the city’s craftsmanship and history. Her restaurant recommendations were outstanding and truly enhanced...
Pros: Local who knows her way well around the city. She was prompt at responding to messages and was flexible with her schedule. Cons: Did not learn as much I'd like to about the history and/or what modern day life is like in Fes. Too much focus on visiting shops and workshops where the goal seemed to be for me to make purchases (although in fairness, Meryem did tell me...
