Guide #4062
Dear Traveller, I would like to welcome you to fascinating Tuscia, the heartland of the mysterious Etruscans. This area is just inland from the Civitavecchia/Rome port and its main city is the medieval town of Viterbo, once home to the popes. I moved here with my Finnish wife, Susanna, more than 20 years ago and we were happily taken by surprise by the sheer beauty and cultural richness of our new home place. But we were equally astonished to find very few tourists here. This is still nowadays very much the case, because most tourists choose nearby Rome or Florence. But I can assure you that those who did come here have not regretted it. I am by profession a international legal consultant working exclusively for a Rome-based United Nations Agency. Fortunately my work leaves me enough time for my passions: exploring together with visitors the wonders of the place we live in and our very lively music association. So please, let me tell you something about the Tuscia area: it is a lush-green hilly area just north of Rome and bordering the Tirrenean sea to the west, Tuscany in the north and Umbria to the east. As most places it is full of vibrant history, especially etruscan, medieval and renaissance history. The climate and food here are exceptional. I am specializing in full or half day tours for small groups, in which lunch at a very interesting private location, a cooking class or even an opera show can be included. I grew up in the Netherlands, where I graduated from law school. Since 12 years I am a licensed guide for the province of Viterbo. I am also a lawyer and are been employed as a consultant to a Rome-based U.N. organization. None

This was an absolutely amazing tour with Rudolph! Our group of 4 had all been to Rome ( the typical destination when docked in Civitavecchia) multiple times and were looking for something different. Before this tour, none of us knew much at all about the Etruscans (I certainly don't remember any mention of them in any of my World History classes!). But by the end of our...
This was an AMAZING tour!!! Mr. Hupperts' enthusiasm and knowledge certainly brightened our rainy day! Our first stop was a field to see a mound as a preview of the Etruscan Tombs we would later enter, which was quite helpful once we got to the actual tombs. Mr. Hupperts was engaging and he did not overwhelm us with information, but at the same time we felt he was very...
Rudolph was gracious, friendly and so knowledgeable! We went off the beaten path to towns with etruscan origins as well as areas with early "dice" style tombs . The trip was really eye-opening and thoughtfully put together! And excellent driver and so much fun to talk with. A memorable and fabulous day! Thank you Rudolf!
