The green heartland of the Etruscans close to Civitavecchia

Viterbo is a magnificent medieval town but largely ignored by mass tourism. Its only fault is that it lies between two of the best-known tourist destinations in the world, Rome and Florence. This calm and rich town can claim to have been time ago at the centre of the world when the popes were residing there. After a pleasant walk and a stop for a cappuccino, I will take you to my favourite place and we will visit Europe's best-preserved medieval quarters and the imposing papal residence. A hidden door takes us to the town hall! Then, we will enjoy lunch in a local trattoria with homemade food by the granny The Etruscans! This mysterious people, the "forefathers" of the Romans will claim our full attention in the afternoon when we travel to Tuscania and Tarquinia. The hilltop town of Tarquinia is home to the world-famous UNESCO heritage site of the unique painted tombs and to one of the principal Etruscan archaeological museums in Italy.
