Going to Skopje, the capital of Republic of North Macedonia is as if going back to those days at the beginning of 20th century when the so called "Macedonian" question was conceived. Yet, Skopje is the new modern face of a young independent country which was firstly acknowledged by Bulgaria. The Republic of North Macedonia has had the opportunity to develop after the post-Yugoslavian period and today Skopje presents to us its long-standing history with its second largest Grand Bazar, small "sokak" - streets, quite tempting with its tasty local food and sweets as well as some interesting architecture - a combination of the ideas of the famous Japanese architect Kenzo Tange together with the memories of the one of the most devastating earthquakes in the history of the Balkans!
We had a great tour with Phillip. My husband uses a wheelchair (which we discussed with him before we booked the tour) and he went out of his way to accommodate us. The guide in Skopie was also knowledgeable and extremely helpful. Skopie is interesting. I highly recommend this tour with Phillip.
Phil was a wonderful tour guide that we thoroughly enjoyed. Informative, engaging, and highly recommended. The only issue we had was the tour being changed from private to group the morning of the tour. We were reimbursed the private tour difference.
Philip was great! So friendly, conversational, and informative! We learned so much and would definitely recommend it. The one change i'd suggest is having lunch be right upon arrival in Skopje. We arrived in the early afternoon after a light breakfast and four hour drive and we and our four children were all starving! The tour was two hours and it would've been more enjoyable if we weren't needing lunch! Even so, it was great and we loved the tour!
Both the Macedonian and the Bulgarian guides made us enthusiastic about coming back and knowing more about their countries.
Philip gave as an outstanding tour of Skopje. He has a remarkable understanding of the complicated Balkan histories and has a great ability to translate the detail to your level of interest. It is a LONG drive, but he kept it lively and had a few informative videos he shared on the car's entertainment center. An excellent day and we'd highly recommend him.
My daughter and I visited Skopje and Thessaloniki with the tour guide Philip. Both tours were really amazing, Philip is a very nice guy, so intelligent, patient, an excellent guide, very professional, he is extremely knowledgable about all places that we have visited with him. I higly recommend him to anyone. I have already booked some guided tours in other countries and to be honest Philip was the best. He made us a great surprise, he showed us the Osogovo Monastery, an amazing place! Thanks from Brazil!
We start from Sofia and in 2 hours we'll be at the boarder with Republic of Macedonia. - At our arrival in Skopje we'll start walking right in the city centre, - we will go across the "KAMEN" bridge, take a walk along the small shopping streets of the old market - the second biggest of this type after the "Grand Bazar" in Istanbul - "Kapalicarsi", - then up to the Kalle (fortress) and have some lunch (optional). - On the way back we'll walk along the pedestrian area, see the memorial house of Mother Theresa (free entrance) , and see the Old train station, which has been converted into the Museum of Macedonia.
