Fallingwater has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but less well-known is another Frank Lloyd Wright architectural gem just 15 minutes away: Kentuck Knob. Kentuck Knob was designed 15 years AFTER Fallingwater as a year-round residence at a more spectacular setting on a more modest budget. This Tour enables you to visit both locations. By comparing the two homes, not only will you appreciate Wright's genius even more, but you'll be stimulated to see possibilities of design that you never before imagined.
We'll begin at the Pittsburgh International Airport and travel into the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania. Between the Laurel and Chestnut Ridges of the Allegheny Mountains, you'll find two architectural masterpieces designed by the Greatest American Architect of the 20th Century: Frank Lloyd Wright. You'll first visit Fallingwater, a recently designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. With the design of this home, Wright revitalized his career and released American Architecture from the bonds of the International School. Then, after claiming his position as America's Premier architect, he was asked to design a more modest dwelling for the local Hagen Ice Cream family which would be a year-round residence just 10 miles down the road. This will be your second stop. Between the two homes, you'll stop at the picturesque Ohiopyle Falls of the Youghiogheny River.
