I was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area and have lived here my entire life. I have witnessed this area thrive with the steel industry operating at its peak and watched its decline as steel mills closed. Since the decline of the steel industry, Pittsburgh has enjoyed a renaissance where high tech and medical industries have grown and now dominate the business landscape. Barren industrial properties along the riverfront have become biking and walking trails, residential neighborhoods, and shopping and commercial developments. I grew up in the steel town of McKeesport, located 15 miles southeast of Pittsburgh along the Monongahela River. Despite living here my entire life, I feel like I have become a tourist in my own hometown, for it has become a "new" city compared to the one I knew as a child. I studied at Carnegie Mellon University and received a B.S. in Chemistry. Then I studied at the University of Pittsburgh and received a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology. As with most Pittsburghers, I am an avid sports fan always rooting for the Steelers, Penguins, and the Pirates. I also enjoy the arts scene in the city, especially the theatre tours that come through Pittsburgh. I continue to be a student of history, especially with regards to the evolution of the city. I am a proud Pittsburgher and look forward to meeting you so I can show off my town!

Frank Lloyd Wright is known as the creator and expounder of “organic architecture," where buildings harmonize with their inhabitants and their environment. Near Ohiopyle, (70 miles southeast of Pittsburgh), in the Laurel Highlands, are two notable residences that he designed: Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. Kentuck Knob was declared a National Historic Landmark, while Fallingwater, his crowning achievement in organic architecture, was also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On this tour, we will depart Pittsburgh to see both of these residences, and depending on ticket availability, we could even enjoy guided visits to them. While in the Laurel Highlands, we will also visit Ohiopyle State Park. The rushing waters of the Youghiogheny River flow through the park where you'll see adventurers engage in white water rafting or kayaking. We'll also stroll along the Great Allegheny Passage, a rail trail that begins in Pittsburgh and stretches to Cumberland, MD and onward to Washington, DC.
·After a morning pickup, we'll depart Pittsburgh and drive along the Pennsylvania Turnpike into the Laurel Highlands to Fallingwater (approximately a 1.5 hour drive). ·On arrival, we'll carry out a 2 hour tour of Fallingwater ·Afterwards, we'll go on an approximately 20 minute drive to Kentuck Knob. -Once we arrive, we'll go on an approximately hour-long tour. -Now, to attend to our appetite, we'll get to have lunch in Ohiopyle. ·After lunch, we'll walk over to the Great Allegheny Passage, where we'll stroll along the former railway lines. ·At last, we'll dive into the Ohiopyle State Park, where we'll view the gorge and its whitewater rapids. ·We'll finally drive back to your lodging for the end of the tour.
