To paraphrase a well-known bumper sticker: I was not born in Houston, but I got here as soon as I could! Minus a few years here and there, I have lived in the Houston area since I was a pre-schooler. That's a mighty long time. During my years at Rice University, I fell in love with Houston's creativity, vitality, and diversity. Beyond its unique skyline, iconic stadiums, and legendary humidity, this city of has 2. 5 million people from all over the world who bring an enterprising spirit and a truly awesome mix of cultures and cuisines. My many jobs since the 1980s have included driving taxis and rideshares all around Greater Houston. I've actually covered much of the city by bicycle! I've also held some regular, full-time salaried positions as a high school Latin teacher, information technology instructor, and IT support technician. I'm new at the tour guide endeavor, but it's something I've thought about getting into for many years, for I love informing travellers about cool and unusual places in the city, as well as the story behind it. Not to mention telling them of interesting events that are taking place here! My tours will go beyond the usual tourist stops and explore the real Houston, where regular folks like to go for cultural and social experiences. My specialties include: + established art spaces in and around the Museum District + alternative arts, including our famous Art Cars + local craft breweries and our international food scene -Bachelor's degree in Classical Studies from Rice University -Experience driving in Houston since 1979 -Rideshare driver in Houston since 2019 -Contributed to the launch of Houston's Edition of the World Naked Bike Ride in 2011.

Texas has many "dry" counties where you cannot buy a beer outside of a private club. Fortunately for its nearly five million residents, Harris County is not one of those. Apart from the huge Budweiser brewery near the Ship Channel, the Houston area now has dozens of craft breweries, some of which also serve delicious bar bites and pub grub. Saint Arnold, the oldest craft brewery in post-Prohibition Texas (established in 1994), is also recognized as an incubator for talented brewers who have left to establish their own breweries. This tour will either begin or end at Saint Arnold's Biergarten (opened in 2015). The Biergarten purveys some innovative foodstuffs as well as a whole panoply of souvenirs. We will also sample the wares at three breweries close to (and in some ways influenced by) Saint Arnold: Gristworkz, True Anomaly & Eighth Wonder. Some of these breweries also sell six-packs to go (which has only recently been legalized). All of these are within two miles of Daikin Park Baseball Stadium!
-I'll pick you up at your lodging or another pre-arranged location. -We will sample one beverage or beer flight at each of these establishments: 1. Saint Arnold—Biergarten with a full dinner menu, big-screen TVs, and a souvenir shop. 2. Eighth Wonder—in East Downtown, maker of Brewston and Hopston pale ales; food trucks on the premises (usually) and distillery/CBD shop nearby 3. One of these two, depending on availability: a. Gristworkz—one of the newest microbreweries on the scene, in the redeveloping Hardy Yards neighborhood, north of Downtown. b. Holler—located just northwest of Downtown in the First Ward arts district. After these 3 visits, I'll drop you off at your lodging or at another pre-arranged location. This itinerary could be customized to best meet your specific needs.
